I fear that all too many Republicans in the Senate vote and think like Democrats. May each of them be retired on the next primary election in their home states.

Everyone seems to want to have a place at the Public feeding trough!

Well, there are some that are saying that the Senate and the President are "playing nice" right now, so they can look compassionate and try to solidify control of the Senate in 2004 with 60 seats and Bush win the Presidency for 2005-2009. Republicans might be a little more secure with their standing in the House, so they let the House do the dirty work.

Agreed. The House (R) member seem to be more in tune with Republican goals though.

I give credit to Tom DeLay and House Republicans for resisting ill-advised presidential pressure to convert our tax system into a welfare system. If the Senate wants a gimme for people who don't pay taxes, I suggest the place to begin is to remove the phony $350 billion limit and make ALL the just past cuts permanent. If Susan Collins, Lincoln Blanche, and John McCain are that desperate for their gimme, they should know the price they'll have to pay to secure it.

What do you mean? As a single taxpayer, my money is being redistributed all over the place.

Me too (single and a taxpayer) but at least this is $400 less that might be redistributed.

Kudos to the Republicans in the House for having the balls to stand up to welfare.

Buy a house or put more in a 401k?
I had no exemptions for many years, when I was single.
When I was married, I got screwed by the marriage penalty.
Personally, I would be happy with a flat rate tax, no exemtions for anyone for anything. But untill and unless we get rid of SS,Medicare, Welfare and every single government "entitlement program" the Feds have decided to fund, and people refuse to let the Feds play social engineering games, righting the wrongs must either be incremental or done in one fell swoop.
From where I sit, either way is fine with me,as long as it get done.
But I refuse to back any idiotic politician who wants to pretend to cut taxes on the one hand, when they really want to play smoke and mirror games and continue on a path to socialism.
