Oddly enough, the Yankees once had an unusually long stretch between no-hitters of their own. I believe Dwight Gooden's no-hitter back in 1995 or so was the first no-hitter for a Yankee pitcher since Whitey Ford in the early 1960s.

I'm a lifelong Yankees fan and even I can't stand John Sterling. The most bush league call in baseball. Mel Allen is spinning in his grave, and Phil Rizzuto is choking on his canoli.

And boyoboy, am I sorry that I will not be in the office tomorrow (in NYC) to taunt the Yankees' fans like the Frenchman on the castle parapet taunted the silly Englishmen in The Holy Grail...

And may we all be around to help the BoSox celebrate!

Amen to that!

I never thought I'd live to see the day that the Patriots b!+ch slap the Rams and take home the Vince Lombardi trophy. (I only wish my father lived long enough to see that)

Anything is possible in Boston!

I don't think that's correct. IIRC, Dave Righetti pitched a no-no in '84(?) before being moved to the bullpen.

I don't think Ford ever pitched a no-hitter. I'm pretty sure that other than Larsen's World Series perfect game, the Yanks went from 1951 (when Allie Reynolds pitched two no-hitters) until July 4 1983, when Dave Righetti threw one. You're right, though, it was a pretty long stretch. Then they had a pile of them in the 1990s (Wells, Cone, Gooden.)

Four strikeouts in an inning. Love that one.

And he only TIED the major league record.

Amen, brother. Last time I looked back a mere few centuries ago, those folks started a country--against all odds. (Ah yes, there a several Virginians, a New Yorker or two and don't forget old Rodney from Delaware, but those Beans truly got it going). And, great sports fans up there.

You're right. Righetti's no-hitter against the Red Sox may have been the first since Whitey Ford.

Righetti struck out Wade Boggs to end that game, which was on the 4th of July in 1983 if I remember correctly.

Well, I live in San Diego now, and although the Padres also suck, at least I can enjoy the scenery, the weather, the fact that my county voted for Bush, the impending recall of the Gray Man...

Why is there no recall effort for The Jewel of Denial (aka Hillary)?

Four strikeouts in one inning by a pitcher is one of those oddities in baseball that ranks right up there with three assists by an outfielder in one inning.

I'm surprised it has happened 44 times in baseball history!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Red Sux fans can talk all they want to, but no matter what, they'll still be behind the Yankees when the season ends. It's just one of those sure things in life, like Bill Clinton lying or the French surrendering.

3 assists by an OF has happened 44 times? I can't even remember it ever happening once (in my 38 years of following baseball)

Well, if you could recall a Senator, I would sign the first petition. As someone who has lived in both SoCal and Manhattan and who thinks both are great places to live, I also have to say that both states elect horrible Senators. It would be one grim task to have to rank in descending order among Hitlery, Schumer, Feinstein and Boxer. And if we're going to throw Mass into the mix -- let's be honest and say all three are hopeless.

235 ** Hawkins Andy Geren Bob 7/1/1990 NY AL vs. Chi AL 0-4s

I don't know if anyone remembers this game, but it will go down as one of the most awful games in Yankee history because it was so poorly played.

Andy Hawkins pitched a no-hitter through eight innings but the Yankees lost the game 4-0 on a bunch of walks, errors, etc. This is no longer considered a no-hitter because it wasn't a full nine-inning game -- the White Sox didn't come to bat in the bottom of the ninth because they were ahead.

Well, I have to admit that I've been present for two no-hitters in my career as a baseball fan: for the famous Andy Hawkins no-hitter-that-wasn't, at old Comiskey Park in 1990 and the David Cone Perfect Game, 7-18-1999 at Yanker Stadium.

Yes, both thrown by Yanker hurlers And I mean HURL.

But Hawkins lost. What a bizarre game.
