RIYADH: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on Wednesday agreed to cooperate in combating international terrorism during a daylong visit by President Pervez Musharraf to the oil-rich kingdom.

In a one-hour meeting between President Musharraf and Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz at the Crown Prince Palace, both the leaders agreed to work more closely against terrorism and also exchanged views on bilateral relations between the two countries.

Prince Abdullah said the two countries enjoyed “excellent, brotherly and solid relations”. “They are so good we need not talk about it,” he remarked. Both the leaders also discussed the developments in the Middle East and South Asia.

President Musharraf briefed the crown prince on the latest developments in Pakistan-India relations and the steps taken to improve them.

He said Pakistan remained committed to dialogue and hoped that India would reciprocate the gesture and engage in “sincere, constructive talks”.

The president also briefed the crown prince on the situation in Afghanistan and reiterated Pakistan’s determination to fight against terrorism. He expressed his condolences over the loss of life in the recent terror attack in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. Musharraf meets Fahd: President Musharraf called on King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz and exchanged views on regional and international issues.

The meeting at the King’s Palace was held in a cordial atmosphere and the two sides discussed bilateral and regional matters.President Musharraf conveyed good wishes on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan to the king and the people of Saudi Arabia. He also expressed his grief and sorrow over the tragic loss of life during the terrorist attack in Riyadh.

Saudi FM: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al Faisal said the negotiating table was the only place to resolve all the disputes between India and Pakistan.

He said the talks between President Musharraf and Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz took into account the situation in the subcontinent and the measures taken to defuse the situation.

“There is similarity of views in dealing with the problems being faced by the countries in the region. It also reflects that the two sides are anxiously seeking a solution of the problem being faced by the Muslim Ummah.” —APP

All of the indications are that the Saudis have gotten the message and are changing course to clean out the extremists. They even seem to be cracking down on the more literal Wahabist Imans. They seem to have learned that appeasement does not work.

We need more time to see how this really plays out. There are some real A**H***s in the House of Saud, as there are in any large family. ;-)

The Saudis financed Pakistan's nuclear program (The Muslim Bomb) through the BCCI bank...you know the one who gave $13 million to Jimmah Carter, gave money to Andrew Young and Jesse Jackson.

BCCI was also used as the conduit to the AntiSoviet Muj.

Under that cover, a lot of the groundwork for future mischief was laid.

Clifford Irving took a fall for that bank, too, didn't he?

19 months after 9/11 and we still haven't really confronted the Saudis.

How many more American corpses are you willig to accept before we get serious enough to shut down the mullahs and the money.

And, I don't see any indication that the Saudis have gotten the "message", as you put. Just empty rhetoric as usual. What crackdown? What do you mean appeasement?
The Saudi Royals are dyed in the wool wahhabists too.
How could they appease themselves.

"Clifford Irving took a fall for that bank, too, didn't he?"

Not sure, Bert Lance took a hit but overall came out with big bucks.

You don't know what you are talking about, but everything can have an opinion.
