When the U.S. Department of Agriculture brings its party to town later this month, Sacramento-area law enforcement agencies say they will be prepared for the worst -- but hoping for the best.
Led by the Sacramento Police Department, local law enforcement officials say they have spent months planning security for the first Ministerial Conference and Expo on Agricultural Science and Technology, to be held June 23-25 at the Sacramento Convention Center.

On Tuesday, 200 police officers in street clothes gathered at Cal Expo to hone their skills at a form of "paintball" shooting, using specially designed rifles to fire off pepper-filled balls. The balls exploded on human-shaped targets, spewing a nonlethal cloud of the irritating seasoning.
Seriously, can a job get any more fun than hippy-hunting with irritating pepper balls?
They shouldn't even pay the cops that day.
They shouldn't even pay the cops that day."
Yes, it can be more fun. Hunting hippies with APIT rounds out of belt fed weapons.

Will be there with bells on. Ready to "observe" the situation.
Any other farmers like me want to do some observations?
Bunch of trouble makers coming to Sacramento.
Teriyaki or Sweet & Sour? Oh, you said KFC. That would regular or extra crispy?
Oh, so they were intentionally interfering with that restaurant's business by trying to keep people from entering the parking lot, huh?
Forget about the cops. If I had come upon that crap, I would have pulled out a .357 and informed them, "You have exactly ten seconds to get the hell out of here, or you will spend the next two hours picking pieces of your skull from the parking lot."
Sacramento Citizens Community Watch http://crimewatch.us is coordinating a high tech neighborhood watch based on the tactics that have been used by WTO Seattle protesters (self-described anarchist). This item is typical from the various groups known to law enforcement from the Seattle WTO riots:

Sac is happening, because I know that at least my crew of 150+ will be there. also, we need to seperate groups, black blocks from direct actioners. have it happen all over the city, and the the police will be spread too thin. After all, we must think, what is our approach, our intention? I for one am working for global justice and ecological and human sustainability, but we must fight antropocentrism with planned coordinated action. ignorance in the form of emotions and traditions cannot be fought with our logic or reason. The powerful and the masses have proven time and again to have little or no reason, instead falling back on old cliches and catchisms. have fun, be safe, don't hurt anyone, and don't get caught.
SCCW:"Don't hurt anyone, and don't get caught".... interesting choice of words. Caught doing what?
To be clear on our goals and objectives: Observe and document any illegal activities OUTSIDE the police perimeter. Think of it as a well organized neighborhood watch with video cameras rolling if needed. Any incidents that are documented in this manner will be made available to law enforcement.
Community Policing is citizen driven. It's our right and responsibility. SCCW has a sterling track record, many criminal court convictions and has never had a complaint filed or a member injured due to improper tactics or deployment. The police will be fully informed of our lawful activities. We have personnel, equipment and will use two-person surveillance teams. The latter is where we need help but there is also spots for radio dispatching and monitoring at peak periods. We may learn more about possible hot spots and logistics after area police have their briefings today.
To volunteer, call crimewatch at 448-1636 and leave a call back number. We do verify information on watch volunteers.
