Hussein Spotted, Offering Bounty for Killing U.S. Troops

NEW YORK (Talon News) -- Ousted President Saddam Hussein is paying a bounty for killing U.S. troops according to the leader of an Iraqi exile group on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses have spotted Saddam Hussein hiding out just north of Baghdad on several occasions. He has been seen near Diyala, around the Tigris River, near his hometown of Tikrit and in the Dulaimi areas.

Saddam is suspected to have $1.3 billion in cash in his possession that was taken from the Central Bank on March 18. Saddam Hussein is undoubtedly seeking revenge for the war the United States perpetrated against his regime and will do whatever he can to win his power back.

Ahmed Chalabi, the head of the Iraqi National Congress, says that Saddam Hussein is willing to "sit it out and get the Americans going."

The Pentagon denies the claim that Saddam Hussein is still alive and offering money for the execution of American soldiers.

Chalabi recalls hearing about Saddam Hussein's plan for killing American soldiers right before he departed for the United States two weeks ago.

"Now, he's put a price on American soldiers. He will pay bounty for every American soldier killed in Iraq now. This has been spread around in the western part of the country," said Chalabi, speaking to the Council on Foreign Relations.

Chalabi said that the bounty effort so far has resulted in the death of an American soldier "close to one a day, which is not good."

Additional troops have been sent to areas where the killings have taken place to fortify defensive efforts as a deterrent. But Chalabi warns that American soldiers "are sitting ducks for terrorists."

He recommends that the United States help Iraq form a new security force under the direction of the U.S., which would take approximately six weeks to implement with the assistance of the Iraqi people. Local criminals and Baath Party sympathizers need to be captured in order for peace to be restored in Iraq.

"They can actually provide order quickly," he said.

Although he has shown no political interest, Chalabi is one of a few men who have been considered to lead Iraq in the future. But some Iraqis are critical of him because of the years he spent living in another country and conducting business in Jordan.

One of the small but troubling puzzles in the debate about postwar Iraq is why one document that may prove critical to the political future of the country has still not surfaced in Washington. The document is an English-language translation of the 213-page judgement passed by a Jordanian State Security Court in 1992 convicting Dr Ahmad Chalabi, in absentia, in two cases of fraud involving more than $US60 million ($93.5 million) that went missing when the Petra Bank collapsed in Amman.

A spokeswoman for the Jordanian embassy in Washington said, to her knowledge, an English translation of the judgement has never officially been released in America. More surprisingly, in the decade after that judgement, Washington handed Chalabi, Iraq's most famous opposition exile, an estimated $US60 million from the CIA and several more million from the Pentagon.

Chalabi has always argued that the bank fraud case against him was a politically motivated attack by the Jordanian Government. And it seems some senior figures in the US Government have not wanted to delve too deeply into the scandal to establish Chalabi's guilt or innocence.

They include, many believe, the Vice-President, Dick Cheney, and the US Secretary of Defence, Donald Rumsfeld, who see Chalabi as a Westernised pragmatist they can do business with.

Was Saddam seen with Elvis and Jimmy Hoffa and Osama?

If you had $1,000,000,000 would you be hiding in Baghdad trying to regain control of Iraq?

Get real.

Somebody's always spotting Saddam here or there or somewhere else, and I don't understand why they can't find him and make him dead.

I heard repeated claims by this guy that SH is alive and in Iraq. Chalabe is supposed to be on the side of the U.S. - so if he has so much info on SH - why doesn't he tell our troops where he is so he can be killed?

If Saddam announced he was running for the Dem nomination for President, he'd probably get 10% of the next poll..
