When I first heard that there was a bogus recall petition being circulated in an effort to confuse and derail the Davis Recall effort, I thought that this was merely a story being circulated by Conservatives to light a fire under the butts of people wishing Gray Davis could be taken out of office. It just seemed way too odd to me that people would actually commit election fraud in an effort to stop the movement.
That all changed today when I stopped at a Target in Irvine, CA and saw a petition table for the Recall. I decided to read the small print before I signed.
AND IT WAS A BOGUS PETITION! It first started with official enough looking language with the header RECALL PETITION. But when you got to the second paragraph of the Petition language, the petition stated that the recall movement was a waste of time and resources and a right wing attempt to get rid of the rightfully elected governor!
I was astounded. When I pointed out to the collector that he and his group was violating state election laws, he became combative. I told him I was merely pointing out he was participating in perpetrating a fraud on voters and that I was going to call the store manager to have a look for himself.
Guys, he got out of there faster than a human shield out of Baghdad before the war!
So, in the end, the bogus recall effort DOES EXIST!
Guys, he got out of there faster than a human shield out of Baghdad before the war!
Good for you!
It seem recall petition must state the reason for the recall and then print Davis rebuttle on the same petition
You will see that recall petition first states the recall reason and proponents then it states "The answer of the officer sought to be recalled is as follows:"...( then Davis rebuttle)
PETITION FOR RECALL
TO THE HONORABLE California Secretary of State. Pursuant to the California Constitution and California election laws, we the undersigned registered and qualified electors of the State of California, respectfully state that we seek the recall and removal of Gray Davis holding the office of Governor, in California. We demand an election of a successor to that office. Governor of California. The following Notice of Intention to Circulate Recall Petition was served on 2/5/2003 to Gray Davis: NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CIRCULATE RECALL PETITION. TO THE HONORABLE GRAY DAVIS: Pursuant to Section 11020, California Election Code, the undersigned registered qualified voters of the State of California, hereby give notice that we are the proponents of a recall petition and that we intend to seek your recall and removal from the office of Governor of the State of California, and to demand election of a successor in that office. The grounds for the recall are as follows: Gross mismanagement of California Finances by overspending taxpayers money, threatening public safety by cutting funds to local governments, failing to account for the exorbitant cost of the energy fiasco, and failing in general to deal with the states major problems until they get to the crisis stage. California should not have to be known as the state with poor schools, traffic jams, outrageous utility bills, and huge debts....all caused by gross mismanagement. The printed names, signatures, and business or residence addresses of the proponents are as follows: Edward J Costa; J. Wayne Scherffius; John B. Camey; Stephanie L Brown; Donald M. Nelson Sr.; William A. Stenson, Jr.; John A. Burtscher; Destyn R. Vetter; Loren Oliver Todd; Mark A. Hazen; Thomas H. Wells; Adam M Mrotek; Diane M Schachterle; Mary A. Jensen; Charles T. Jensen; Kenneth J. Payne. To contact proponents: Ted Costa at Peoples Advocate: (916)482-6175. The answer of the officer sought to be recalled is as follows: IF YOU SIGN THIS PETITION, IT MAY LEAD TO A SPECIAL ELECTION THIS SUMMER COSTING US TAXPAYERS AN ADDITIONAL $20-40 MILLION. Last November, almost 8,000,000 Californians went to the polls. They voted to elect Governor Davis to another term. Just days after the Governors inauguration in January, however, a handful of rightwing politicians are attempting to overturn the voters decision. They couldnt beat him fair and square, so now theyre trying another trick to remove him from office. This effort is being led by the former Chairman of the State Republican Party, who was censured by his own party. We should not waste scarce taxpayers dollars on sour grapes. The time for partisanship and campaigning is past. Its time for both parties to work together on our States problems. Moreover, the allegations leveled against the Governor are false. As Governor, Davis has vetoed almost $9 BILLION in spending. California, along with 37 other states, is facing a budget deficit due to the bad national economy. The Bush Administration has announced the federal deficit this year will be the biggest in history, $304 BILLION. In these difficult and dangerous times, LETS WORK TOGETHER, not be diverted by partisan mischief. /s/ Gray Davis Governor Gray Davis 9911 W. Pico Boulevard, Suite 980 Los Angeles, CA 90035
Clearly you were haranguing a valid Recall Davis booth. Read what the petition says:
"The answer of the officer sought to be recalled is as follows: IF YOU SIGN THIS PETITION, IT MAY LEAD TO A SPECIAL ELECTION THIS SUMMER COSTING US TAXPAYERS AN ADDITIONAL $20-40 MILLION. Last November, almost 8,000,000 Californians went to the polls. They voted to elect Governor Davis to another term. Just days after the Governors inauguration in January, however, a handful of rightwing politicians are attempting to overturn the voters decision. It's true, the content and format of recall petitions are that tightly regulated. They must be on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. All the signers on a particular sheet must be from the same county, etc.
Thanks for the info. Do you have a link to these regulations?
More lies and deceit from the RINOs and extreme leftist.....
And that is the bottom line !!
To late, the people of California have hadenuf. There comes a time when politicians must be held accountable for their actions. This recall fits the bill perfectly.
Send the damn message, a little memo for the next one who sits in his smoking seat.
