Bumped.

I've often wondered about the intelligence of someone who would go to the trouble of voting in an online poll only to say, "I don't know".

Why arm the pilots? They are too busy flying the plane. Arm the passengers!

;>)

Even when I don't have enough to do, I don't vote in polls in which I have no opinion!

Before voting at all I would like to know.

Training given to pilot, a competency standard to be obtained .

Ammo to be of a correct type for inside of an Aircraft.

Protocol on use of said firearm, i.e. to defend the flight deck or to leave the flight deck and attempt to intervene in respect of the incident.

My understanding in the US a lot of pilots are ex military and should have firearms skills or at the least the aptitude to learn them.

On the other hand I recall a case in the US recently of a couple of pilots who where under the influence. Would I feel comfortable with those two being armed?

So sorry all but without a little more info, the Yes / No debate to my mind at least is not as simple as that.

Were they flying the plane? Kind of a moot point.

They were caught before they had entered the flight-deck, my understanding is they would have "flying the plane" if they had not be caught. Not a moot point at all.

I am of the firm opinion that flying an aircraft requires a lot more judgment and decision skills than does pointing a firearm at the dude breaking down the door to the flight deck.

What's the problem? You don't question his flying skills. Why would you question his ability to point a gun in the right direction at the right time.

BTW, in spite of what the anti-gun liberal idiots say, any hand gun ammo is safe to use in an airplane.

Not a moot point at all.

Sure it is...they can kill you with the plane just as if they had a gun in their hand.

You think there is a chance of rampant flight rage on the flight deck? The pilot is going to come rushing out of the cockpit, start popping passengers?

Where's the rolling eyes emoticon?
