Due to recent activity, including possible unauthorized listings placed on your account, we have suspended activity on your account in order to allow us to investigate this matter further. If you believe that this action may have been taken in error, or, if you feel that your account may have been tampered with, please respond to this message so that we can provide additional information and work with you to resolve this issue.

Your credit/debit card and bank account information along with your personal information will be verified instantly. All the data is protected by the industry standard SSL encryption. All information is required and is kept confidential in accordance with eBay's Privacy Policy.

Your credit/debit card and checking account information is used to verify your identity.

I just received this e-mail purportedly from Ebay. It goes on with fill-ins for all of your important information.

This is a scam, an attempt to steal your money and identity. Please don't answer this email if you receive one like it. Please alert your friends and family. We can't be warned too often about thing type of crime.

When in doubt, read the header. This eBay email and many other scams are forged return addresses.

What is the email address to which you are asked to respond?

Does that email address mimic something that would trick someone into believing it was genuine?

Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com. Be sure that the forward keyword 'fw' is in the subject line.

Ebay will have the scan site shut down.

"suspension@ebay.com" is the e-mail address.

In answer to your question, no, I wouldn't respond to it, but someone else might be busy and do it without thinking, or think that it is required to keep their Ebay privileges and thus be scammed.

This is just a friendly warning to all FReepers. Although FReepers would not likely fall for this scam, we all have friends and family who might.

If you get a message like this it's also a good idea to let eBay and/or PayPal know in their Community Safety/Fraud area (whatever it's called).

This is a variation on a similar scam that uses a supposed unused PayPal account in the same fashion. Be aware that these scams are going on - no one from any of these countries will ask you for your credit card information via e-mail in such a fashion. These are all elaborate scams, designed to part you from your hard-earned cash in as quick and untraceable a fashion as possible.

I received a similar email that claimed to be from PayPal. It looked legitimate. They wanted my credit card info, including expiration date and PIN. No legitimate company would ever ask for that. Besides that, I have never used PayPal. I forwarded the message to the FTC and the FBI.

I received the ebay email about a week ago. I emailed ebay about it and registered an abuse complaint. I got back a form letter and that was it.

Today I received a similar email about Citibank ... do NOT respond to these emails.
