The new E.U. constitution sure sounds familiar to many Eastern Europeans, in ways that ought to worry us too. No, the EU is not a tyranny - but anyone who has even casually read history should be worried, because it's ceratinly headed that way: endemic corruption, design for insulation from voters, complete lack of serious internal accountability mechanisms, refusal to accept democratic votes that don't go their way (especially votes to leave the EU), now moves making it easy to ban political parties, controls on online speech, and intolerance of dissent... it's an ugly picture.
Winds of Change.NET links you to the Telegraph article, adds research to back up the above claims, and explains what TAFTA needs to be America's next move.
"Supreme power is wielded, not by parliamentarians, but by a 20-member politburo. The members of this politburo - Commissioners, as they are known - enjoy a privileged life: they are ferried around in black chauffeur-driven cars, and are exempt from several taxes. They rule by a series of five-year plans, micro-managing decisions that could perfectly well be taken at a lower level.Guys, The above from the Telegraph article. It seems that the bureaucrats assigned to run things, at their whims of the day, are not only exempt from taxes, but from voter's wrath as well. Democracy??
The EU is not a tyranny: it does not throw its opponents into gulags or take away their passports. But it is becoming increasingly intolerant of dissent. If you think I exaggerate, read what the Advocate General said when Bernard Connolly, a Commission official who was sacked after attacking the single currency, claimed that his right to free speech had been violated. Free speech, the judge told him, was not an absolute right. It could not be used to justify certain offences, such as criticism of the EU, or blasphemy."

And, Judges of any given era/day defining "free speech"???? Republic??? Or just plain ole socialist tyranny in a "new and pretty" package????? Peace and love, George.
Here, froggy. Just get in this pot of tepid water. It won't burn, we promise.
Thanks for the ping.
What's this "us" bit, Kimosabe ?
OK, I got my joke in, but regretfully, you are infuriatingly correct.
