I heard this in Mount Desert Island Maine, when vacationing there. It's supposed to be true.

Martha Stewart has a cottage in Seal Cove. There was a local restaurant in Northeast Harbor that was all the rage. But it didn't take reservations. Martha went there, where she found a long line. She approached the hostess to see if she could "work somthing out."

The hostess wouldn't budge. Martha then huffily asked to use the phone. The hostess then told Martha that there was a public telephone on the wall around the corner. Incensed, Marth asked, "Do you know who I AM?"

Just then a man stepped out from the line. He asked Martha, "Do you know who I am?" After Martha said "No," the man stated, "I am David Rockafeller, and I use the public phone."

He's supposed to be a real nice guy. I've talked with some of the 'hired help' at Chase Plaza where he has an office, and they had nothing but praise for his attitude toward 'the common man'.

A lwayer is an officer of the court. I recently found out that Martha was a member with the Security and Exchange, a broker. As such, to lie to the detectives or to lie in dealings of an insider nature is a felony. She may only have realized a small advantage of perhaps 40 or 50 thousands from her insider info, but the fact is, she took out what smaller investors who are dependent upon those licensed with S&E are under oath to be honest over gave up due to her illegal dealing. Learning of that, I was deeply saddened (to borrow a phrase from one notorious rat friend of Martha). Neil was too nice to Martha in this column, but he is apparently following his father's advice. Good for him!

I saw an interview with her once where she claimed she was sexually harassed because her boss stood behind her and jangled his keys in his pocket while she typed. It was one of the Twilight Zone moments of my life, when I realized many of the people in power belonged in the Monkey House.

I really think that most people in Washington have a cultural disconnect. I was watching the Mclaughlin Group this week-end(I know, what was I thinking), when Eleanor Clift and Pat Buchanan both agreed she was getting rail roaded. She only profited $45,000 or so from this deal. What was the big deal anyways?

If these folks really believe that, I propose that we let out everybody in prison who is there for theft, who has been convicted of stealing $45,000 worth of stuff or less.

White collar Washington insiders think that their cronies crimes don't count. Just because you color co-ordinate, and can make a christmas wreath out of pine cones, gold paint, and fresh himalayan berries, does not mean that when you steal money, you shouldn't do the same time that Juan Cruz from East L.A. does, when he steals a stereo.

I heard that she insisted that they could not wear their uniforms during certain events. I cannot remember the source on that one.

IMHO Martha has always been pretty irrevelant to me. I didn't care one way or another about her and it is due probably to what some are saying here, she was a clinton lover, and that pretty much does it for me. Hope she fries!
