Even Patricia Ireland Used To Be Pro-Life
Washington Dispatch ^ | 6/7/2003 | Kevin M. Jeanfreau

Patricia Ireland and her entire side used to be pro-life. Each and every one of them was, when they were young. If you had asked little Miss Ireland while in the first grade what is inside a pregnant woman’s tummy, she would have said a baby. If you had asked if it would be okay to hurt that baby in any way, she would have said no. Try it with a thousand first graders; their answers will all be basically the same. The fact is, as little ones we are naturally pro-life.

Children have been growing up these last three decades, being fed a prodigious diet of anti life, anti family rhetoric, seasoned with subtle “choice” sentiments. Over time, such propaganda slowly becomes “palatable”. Roughly 50 percent of them (us) change from their natural pro-life selves into pro-abortion adults. Sadly, during these same decades, children who have gone through Christian education from kindergarten through 12th grade have not been taught the truth about the sanctity of life and so statistically they are almost as likely to become pro-abortion as those who receive government education. This is the single most important factor why the holocaust continues, yet it remains largely un-addressed by the pro-life movement as well as Christian leaders.

Voting records of Christians show that our schools have not taught the truth about the unborn in an effective way as an option to the lies we’ve all been exposed to.

I am not ready to define life. I figure that the definition of life has a lot to do when life begins.

If you define life as self supporting activity, then most people just about get there at age 21. Some never make it.

I am interested in sentient life. That means, someone that I might want to talk to, and listen to. That may include some children, some adults, some dolphins, but very few feti.

If life begins at conception, and the life of the child is as important, or more so than the liberty of the mother, then a fellow who extracted a bunch of eggs, fertilized them, and froze them now has a claim against a bunch of women, whose liberty is not as important as the life of the fertilized eggs. I am not sure how his zygote matches up with the liberty of your wife, but, as I said, I am still working out the details.

more often than not, they will be taken in and from their ranks they will take more and more in as they see that life is put at a premium.... one might as well add to your list of aborted children, the ugly, the lame, the not-gender-specific, because you set no limits to the killing...

Here is an idea that takes only 15 minutes and should be done annually from 8th - 12th: While each student holds their very own fetal model they watch Hard Truth . Other videos can also be used throughout the program. There are also videos that are great for younger grades.

Excellent idea. Ultrasound, ultrasound, ultrasound. A picture is worth a thousand words. The students' intellects have been corrupted by the schools. So pastorally, it's better to bypass the intellect in this case and go right for the gut.

Absolutely. But let me tell you how pro-choicers (hah) explain abortion to young children. This is what an eighteen year old baby sitter told my six year old daughter.

Daughter: In school we voted for president. I voted for George Bush.

Babysitter: I wouldn't vote for George Bush. He wants to force women to be pregnant.

Daughter: What?

Babysitter: Sometimes women don't want to be pregnant, and George Bush wouldn't let them stop being pregnant.

Now I found out about this several months later. And never had that sitter again. But I told my daughter, when a woman is pregnant, there is a baby there. And if you don't let the baby be born, it dies. One instant pro-lifer. And then she asks how it dies, and is horrified. I have two ardent pro-life children, one willing to speak out about it, and I have another almost seven, so I guess it's time.

I HATE having to do this. I usually wait until it comes up, and then deal with it. At least James knows exactly what fetal development is, because he has a baby sister, and two miscarried sisters in heaven, and he calls a baby a baby, whether it is a cell ball or a bean or a funny looking embryo or a recognizable fetus.

You're not ready to do much "figuring" either....Don.

It's always great to base one's belief system on fantastical hypotheticals.

Perhaps, if cloning comes of age, it will all work out for you and since life will be sustainable outside the womb then you will be reassured about the woman's freedom to no longer have to kill her own child to remain free in the first place.

Some TV show doctor had a great line (even though he is usually a liberal).

I may not know where life begins, but I do know when it ends.

I was just wondering. How many abused, abandoned, AIDs infected, and/or starved children are you wiling to take in?

Since I do not have a place in my home, I try to do what I can, as we all should. Whether it is doing toys for tots, doing volunteer work, charity work, fund raising, sponsoring, donating both time and money and recruting people to help, etc.

Out of curiosity, I hope your not implying that because these children might be born under poor circumstances, they should be terminated. That logic is very easy to twist, to what if they were born to a loving family, and then became orphaned, with no one to take them in, should they then be terminated?

Peter Singer uses much of the logic in your question to justify extermination of people with disabilities (born or not) and others in horrific circumstances, both born, not born, or even older or elderly.

The spirit in the schools of one generation, is the spirit in the Government of the next.

The scourge of the culture of death is a supernatural evil that cannot be defeated by simply changing human laws. It will require teaching the fullness of the truth that comes from our Lord Jesus Christ about His immutable law regarding the sanctity of each human life.

Even if a Constitutional amendment were passed tomorrow that banned all abortions, this education would still be required to change this culture of death to one of Life.

After 30 years of political battles, we have a culture sinking into deeper darkness and 42+ million dead by abortion. The sad reality is that the duration of the abortion holocaust is prolonged by Christians who vote for pro-abortion candidates. This can only end with a new generation of Christians fully educated on the sanctity of Life before birth. Politics alone has not succeeded. Education of school students is the key.

I remember when I was 8 and my neighbor's dog Deno was with puppies. When I found out my neighbor lady said she had Deno's puppies killed while still in Deno I was horrified. I could not believe she could do that to Deno's poor little puppies. I grieved for the puppies and for quite some time I looked at my neighbor as someone I hardly knew, a puppy killer. This was my first knowledge of abortion. I wondered what I would have felt and thought if she told me she had killed a baby this way. I cannot imagine!

Good story Bellflower. There is a pro-life flier with a sad looking puppy on the front with the caption: "If it shouldn't happen to a dog, it shouldn't be happening to our children."

I believe it would stop if we simply would teach the truth to kids in Christian schools.

A simple thing to teach:
“Abortion and euthanasia are crimes, which no human law can claim to legitimize. There is no obligation in conscience to obey such laws; instead there is a grave and clear obligation to oppose them by conscientious objection. In the case of an intrinsically unjust law, such as a law permitting abortion or euthanasia, it is therefore never licit to obey it, or to ‘take part in a propaganda campaign in favor of such a law, or vote for it.” (Gospel of Life)

I think it's Eric Rudolph, who allegedly hunted down and killed abortionists.

As many people know, it is more and more difficult to adopt babies as so many are killed. Every time I read the classifieds, I see desperate ads placed by couples who long to adopt children. Additionally, it is very hard for white couples to adopt black babies since the social agencies and black activists are against it.

This is the truth, there are many loving hearts and homes who would adopt babies if they could. As far as adopting older children, it is difficult and not everyone can do it. When Newt Gingrich offered the idea of orphanages several years ago, he was scorned by the left and the media. But places like "Boys Town" have helped thousands of kids, and a good orphanage is better than death or a series of horrible foster families.

Pro-Life people who have children in Christian schools must get involved in asking the leadership of the school system to institute k-12 pro-life curriculum to address the issue for the children.

A lawyer was telling me that. In fact, in many cases where a white couple does adopt a african american child, they are already told in advance there is a good chance that at some point and time, the original parents (no matter what the previous circumstances were) if they want, will get the child back.

Same lawyer was also telling me, that the most commonly adopted children, aren't even american, but more likley to be either chinese or russian or some other kind of asian. Can anyone else confirm if thats true?

A terribly sad, but sadly true, fact. Thanks for the ping.

This allows me the opportunity to ask a question. Has everyone here taken the time to tell their children (I recommend starting at age 9) what abortion means and why it is wrong? Unfortunately, the population bomb myth, 'safe sex', and birth control are already topics in grade school curricula and parents have to arm their children FIRST. We can't take for granted that our children will stay prolife for long given the death agenda of the education and media elites. Talk about it. Teach life to your kids.
