Both of your posts are good theories which led me to another thought.

Speculation
Laci may have even ordered the GHB for the actual time of Conner's journey/birth as a natural health aid.
Then Scaughty used it to spike her drink.
Thinking he could have her abort the baby and hoping Conner would not be viable.
Then killed her as she may have been going for the phone or front door to get help.
I am making myself sick thinking of the terror he put Laci through if something that scary did happened.
