I can't imagine any responsible doctor in the United States using GHB for child birth. Having worked for an Anesthesiologist, I can assure you, they don't rely on the patient for information on how to Anesthetize their patients.

GHB's purported medicinal value was eventually overshadowed by its unpredictability; a given dose could completely anesthetize one patient and have no effect on another.

Yes, I heard him say that it can be detected in the liver, but also that Laci's liver was gone. So, wonder if it might be the baby's liver? Wasn't the baby fairly intact?

GHB leaves the body's system relatively quickly( in the urine for about 12 hours), and it is not easily detected by medical tests. GHB breaks down quickly in the body, and is extremely difficult for laboratories to detect even before it breaks down.

Speculation
Laci may have even ordered the GHB for the actual time of Conner's journey/birth as a natural health aid.
Then Scaughty used it to spike her drink.
Thinking he could have her abort the baby and hoping Conner would not be viable.
Then killed her as she may have been going for the phone or front door to get help.
I am making myself sick thinking of the terror he put Laci through if something that scary did happened.

If I remember correctly the article I read pretty much stated all the organs as being missing, but stated the cervix was still intact.

I think the indication of the cervix being intact meant she did not deliver Conner before her death.
