Muslim group threatens to kill the Pope
Jerusalem Post ^ | Jun. 7, 2003 | THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Posted on 06/07/2003 3:08:11 AM PDT by yonif

Croatia's state-run news agency HINA reported Friday that it and a Croatian Catholic news agency had received e-mails threatening to kill Pope John Paul II "in the name of Allah."

The e-mails, signed by the "Islamic Front of el-Mujahadeen" and addressed to "the infidels," appeared to have originated in neighboring Bosnia, said Interior Ministry spokeswoman Zinka Bardic.

She said Croatian and international police agencies were investigating, but that there was no danger to the pontiff because of the heavy security around him.

Papal spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls told reporters aboard the pope's plane Saturday that the Vatican receives such threats "from time to time" and turns them over to local authorities.

He indicated there would be no changes in the pope's schedule in Croatia.

John Paul was holding a Mass on Saturday in Osijek, just over the border from predominantly Orthodox Serbia. Organizers were preparing for up to 200,000 pilgrims from Croatia and Serbia as well as neighboring Bosnia and Hungary.

They want to kill a man who kissed their Kuran.

It shows appeasement doesn't work with these people.

Perhaps this will wake up what had been Christendom.

I doubt it ----the Muslims already shot and tried to kill this Pope before, they killed Robert F. Kennedy, they killed Arafat and many others. They tried to bomb the WTC in 1993 and did succeed in 2001. They've murdered millions of innocent civilians all throughout the world, 2 million just in Sudan ----and still many won't wake up.

"Unfortunately, there are more than a few Freepers who would join the Muslims for this."

Wow, nice to libelously broadbrush an entire group of people without identifying them.

Remind me not to take what you say seriously.

Those recent threads are tame. There have been some purely religious threads (much of it about the time of the Bob Jones controversy) that have had some amazing things said about the Pope.

Everything that gets said on here has been said over and over in conversations that aren't on here. Religious tensions go way way back --- it's nothing new and really doesn't affect us. I've heard Catholics say (not recently though) that only Catholics would be saved and I'm sure plenty of others think only they will be. I've heard Jehova Witnesses think they'll be the only ones in heaven ---they think all other religions besides theirs are false. For some reason anti-Catholicism doesn't bother me ---it's old and doesn't hold anyone back.

"But I only included that to show the level of vitriol some freepers have for the Pope. Yes, there have been freepers who have wished ill for him, I haven't read any recently, but they are out there."

Actually, the only vitriol on this thread is coming from you, not any "Catholic-haters."

Of course, it's early.

Every objective Catholic should recognize these acts as both blasphamous and indefensible.

Yes ---but there have been things in the history of the Church ---worse things even that Popes did --- but the Church survives. Kissing a book written by a man like Mohammed was bizarre ---considering the life that Mohammed led and all ---he murdered Jews and Christians and then there was the little girl he lusted after. Nothing a raping pedophile produces can be good in any way. I hope the next Pope recognizes Islam for what it is.

OK, I saw #49....it's inappropriate. But nowhere near a significant number of FReepers wish death upon the pope, regardless of what one poster said in #49.

Perhaps you can point out where I said "significant".

"I hope the next Pope recognizes Islam for what it is."

I was hoping this Pope might be held accountible for his words and actions so that the next Pope might be made to realize which direction he'd better lead the Catholic Church.

Perhaps you can point out where I said "significant". Let's see Mr. Clinton, your exact words were "more than a few," which in my mind means "significant." Trace

Oh really? So if a bomb goes off and "more than a few" people are killed, it means that a "significant" number of people are killed?

It seems you and I speak a different language.

I haven't noticed the anti-Catholocism that you imply.

HA! On FreeRepublic? You certainly haven't been reading the posts that are infused with anti-Catholicism, then.

I just turn the other cheek. ;o)

I love your truly knowledgable depiction of born-again believers. You're statement shows that instead of being the better man you decide to sink to the supposed level of the anti-catholics.

There is life changing power in Jesus Christ, if you are catholic (cause I don't know who or what you are) and mock that than you have alot to think about.

Versus what?

A dope smokin Contrarian who makes excuses for an old man who winks at his own homosexual "clergy" raping hundreds possibly thousands of small boys?

Whose gotten it backwards?

Look up the definition of wicked. No, wait a minute....first look up humility...then wicked.
