Muslim group threatens to kill the Pope
Jerusalem Post ^ | Jun. 7, 2003 | THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Croatia's state-run news agency HINA reported Friday that it and a Croatian Catholic news agency had received e-mails threatening to kill Pope John Paul II "in the name of Allah."

The e-mails, signed by the "Islamic Front of el-Mujahadeen" and addressed to "the infidels," appeared to have originated in neighboring Bosnia, said Interior Ministry spokeswoman Zinka Bardic.

She said Croatian and international police agencies were investigating, but that there was no danger to the pontiff because of the heavy security around him.

Papal spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls told reporters aboard the pope's plane Saturday that the Vatican receives such threats "from time to time" and turns them over to local authorities.

He indicated there would be no changes in the pope's schedule in Croatia.

John Paul was holding a Mass on Saturday in Osijek, just over the border from predominantly Orthodox Serbia. Organizers were preparing for up to 200,000 pilgrims from Croatia and Serbia as well as neighboring Bosnia and Hungary.

I'm not Catholic but I don't want any harm to come to the Pope. I haven't noticed the anti-Catholocism that you imply.

How about now?

As Pat Buchanan says, they are only fighting us because we support Israel. And he is right: if only the Pope had withdrawn his troops from Saudi Arabia, nothing of this sort would've happened.

Another cradle Catholic checking in. We always have to carry out the trash every four or five hundred years. Maybe it's time for another Crusades? And this time put the nail in the coffin. Semper Fi

Or lynchings. Whatever it takes.

I think we might see some pograms against Muslims if there's another attack on the scale of 9/11. Although Americans talk about the "religion of peace," inwardly people know there is something warped about Islam. And you'd think even the fanatics would know enough not to piss-off 1 billion Catholics.

This is so rare.

I almost never see "Moslem" and "kill" in the same sentence.

" In the past 6 months, every time someone posted anything about Vatican announcements about the war in Iraq, some idiot ends up posting some comment about why doesnt the Pope forget about the war and clean up his 'pedophiles'."

When we finally get a straight answer from Rome, the questions and comments might end.

"[T]he Pope kissed a Koran, calling it Holy. He proclaimed Allah is the same God of Christians. He has opposed the war on terrorism..."

Every objective Catholic should recognize these acts as both blasphamous and indefensible.

Would Christ have done as did this Pope??

One always gains cool points for being the FIRST to post "Islam, the religion of peace" or something about the frequent French surrenders...

nice job!

Muslim group threatens to kill the Pope

After killing a couple million Christians in the Sudan, it should be a piece
of cake to take out the Swiss Guard and the Pope.

I'm sure this thought causes lots of Muslims to become visibly aroused.

Muslims would never attack the Pope...............unless he had unprotected women and children around him.

Shame on you.
Making me laugh out loud about a matter of life and death.
(well done, even if I feel guilty at getting an ironic laugh)

"Actually there was an attempt on the Pope's life some years back. Oh, maybe you meant by muslims. I don't know who was responsible for the other attempt."

See post #7. Mehmhet Ali Acjah, a young Arab, was the shootist. I believe the money trail led to Bulgaria. Since then he has been released from prison and has returned to Turkey, I believe.

God willing, they will try and fail. Perhaps this will wake up what had been Christendom

If they succeed, they will wake up Christendom

The problem is you are not getting any answers from the Pope, instead you are reading and believing what Knight Ridder, NY Times, Financial Times, etc think they heard what someone told them the Pope said. You would get a straight answer by writing the Pope a letter. By the way, check the above papers and see how they have spotlighted the Pope's call for sexual abstinence among the unmarried. Let me know when you see it in print in these rags.

Nice try, but it won't work. As you are well aware, FReepers need not consult rags like the NY Times for the truth, or what someone "told" us. BTW -- do you count in this regard?

As to the issue of rampant homosexuality/pedophilia within the Catholic Church, the Pope and Vatican have treated the crisis with NO urgency, kid gloves, and ambiguious policy instead of setting up a no-tolerance policy and cleaning house once and for all.

IOW, the Pope has loss a ton of credibility and should be embarrassed by the way it's been handled -- amazingly though but he's not, nor is the Vatican.
