Stealing from the Trust fund: Tax credit for those who don't pay...
Posted on 06/06/2003 11:36:24 AM PDT by 1stFreedom
The Democrats want to extend the Child tax credit to those with low incomes. They argue that the working poor do pay taxes in the form of payroll taxes. But to refund the payroll tax is to robbing the Social Security "trust" fund of needed cash.
The poor are the primary beneficiaries of the social programs so they must bear the responsibility of paying the premiums.
So, the new rallying cry should be "Don't starve old widows -- leave the Social Security "trust fund" alone -- Don't cut payroll taxes!"

It is my understanding that the earned income tax credit was implemented specifically as a SS refund for low income filers.
Perhaps someone can confirm this for me.

Heck, I think they should cut the two points of FICA that goes to the surplus, as the government just spends it anyway. That would give some tax relief to lower-income workers.

So, the new rallying cry should be "Give me back what I've paid in, I'll do my own investing, thank you. Make Social Security voluntary!"

The only thing in the trust fund is IOU's. The "money" was stolen long ago to help hide the impact of spending more than the government takes in.
There are many reasons to oppose this, but claiming it robs an imaginery "trust fund" isn't one. They not only looted the "lockbox", they pawned it.

Hey dems!! If you want to give them a tax rebate for taxes they didn't pay, how about giving me a dividend tax credit for the stock I own in companies that don't pay dividends?
