New York Daily News - http://www.nydailynews.com Rev. Al mocks W: Can't find Saddam, Osama or weapons THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Friday, June 6th, 2003
WASHINGTON Democratic presidential candidate Al Sharpton, in an appeal to liberal activists Friday, mocked President Bush for failing to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, deposed leader Saddam Hussein or terrorist leader Osama bin Laden.
We have come out of war with weapons we cant find, guided by a president who told us a year and a half ago were getting bin Laden he cant find him, Sharpton told the Take Back America conference sponsored by two progressive groups, the Campaign for Americas Future and the Institute for Americas Future.
Everything President Bush is after he cant find, Sharpton said on the final day of the three-day conference in which several of the Democratic candidates made their pitch to partys hard core.
Many of those in attendance planned to end the forum by marching from the Washington area hotel to Vice President Dick Cheneys residence in a mock millionaire demonstration replete with tuxedos and tiaras.
Sharpton was the last presidential candidate to address the group and sought to cast himself as the most liberal and most defiantly anti-Bush of the nine Democrats seeking the nomination. He criticized the presidents tax cuts, health care agenda and foreign policy, and took a harsh stance on the U.S. led-war against Iraq.
Sharpton pointed out that Secretary of State Colin Powell went before the United Nations to make the case for war by describing the evidence of Iraqs arsenal.
If you can find the weapons before the war, how come you cant reveal the weapons now? Sharpton asked.
The candidate addressed the group after rival Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri told the forum that Americans are eager for a change from the Bush administration and he promised to provide it.
If we dont have a candidate with clear alternatives, theyre going to vote for George Bush. Im not going to be Bush-lite, Gephardt said in a speech to a half empty ballroom in a Washington hotel.
The conference attracted the partys left wing, with booths promoting environmentalism, feminism, vegetarianism, birth control and an end to the drug war. The first booth many of the candidates saw when they entered was manned by volunteers trying to draft Al Gore, the 2000 presidential candidate who has said he wont run next year.
The candidates who spoke Thursday delivered speeches criticizing Bush on a wide range of issues besides the war, including labor rights, the environment, jobs, homeland security, education, housing and economics.
Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts brought the crowd to its feet by criticizing Bushs domestic agenda. He blamed Bush for a failure of diplomacy but went on to stress that Democrats must be the party of national security as well as domestic security.
If Democrats do not stand for making America safer, stronger and more secure, for all we care about all those issues, we wont win back the White House and we wont deserve to, he said as the audience fell silent. He called for a tough-minded strategy of international engagement.
His remarks were a stark contrast to those of Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who got a standing ovation when he said housing, education and other domestic priorities should be funded with money taken out of the defense budget. He called for peace and demanded the Bush administration disclose its evidence for claiming that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction.
Iraq did not have those weapons of mass destruction. This administration went in anyway, he said. This war was wrong and we must expose this administration.
Republican National Committee spokesman Jim Dyke dismissed the Democrats criticism of the president.
The best that the Democrats have to put forward to Americans is to hope for the worst for America, he said. As an election strategy, were not sure that people will appreciate that.
Notably absent from the forum were the more moderate Democrats in the crowded field, Sens. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and Bob Graham of Florida.

Oh that's funny, Sharpton could not find his check book or his conscious when he was found guilty of defaming Officer Pagones regarding Tawana Brawley.
Why does anyone care what Sharpton thinks about national security.

Al's solution to 9/11 would of been to fund a "Special Crisis Writing Workshop".

I wish to caution patience with big Al at this point. We must remember he has to have a small base if he is to attack other primary candidates. With the DNC doing its best to make him go away, we should tolerate the occasional outburst. It's what we white devils do ;-)

The trio of stooges--Jesse "Shakedown" Jackson, Louis "The Mouth" Farrakhan and Al "Ex-Con" Sharpton. Isn't Sharpton the one that enlarges the slaves numbers coming over on ships everytime he broaches the slavery issue?

Way to go AL, we need a man like you to stand up the man!
You tell em. Only you have the power to bring the republicans and their "fat cat" supporters to their knees. Don't let em try and dodge you, make sure you call em on every issue.
If you're a Democrat vote for AL.

"Iraq did not have those weapons of mass destruction "
We can only conclude that the Kook, the DirtyByrd and the rest of the Democrats will soon introduce legislation to demand our troops cease searching for WMD.It really frosts me when the Democrats wail that " We " have not found WMD. The "We " that has not worked fast enough for the Generalissimos in the Democrat Party are the troops on the ground-those guys the Democrats love to hate, our military. Yes, those guys, the ones dodging snipers, land mines and RPGs,the ones sleeping on the ground, bathing with baby wipes, eating MREs,living under a constant layer of dirt and sand and heat, the ones that haven't seen their families in months. Those guys haven't danced fast enough to the Democrat music and I predict the Democrats will soon demand that they stop looking. The Democrats do not,I repeat, do not want WMD found and the terrorists defanged.

Sharpton: "If you can find the weapons before the war, how come you can't reveal the weapons now?"
Oh, I don't know Al...maybe because we had to expose alot of our intelligence information to various committees to appease you liberal idiots. Between that, and the months of diplomatic rangling, I'm sure Saddam had plenty of time to relocate or misplace his WMDs. I would think the more important question would be, "were are those weapons now...and who else may have them?" But you liberal lapdogs are more concerned with making Bush look bad rather than concentrating on these missing weapons that even the UN, other democrats and even opponents of the war admitted Saddam had.
Resolution 1441 did not put the burden on the US to find anything...it put the burden on Saddam to either produce the weapons or prove that he dstroyed them. And "IF" they were destroyed, simple soil or material tests should prove that, since chemicals like Mustard and Sarin gas take years to degrade. But Saddam couldn't...or wouldn't, even provide that. Oh, and by the way...it took the US government and all its resources over 5 years to find this Rudolph character hiding in the NC mountains. I'm sure we'll have your (and the other lapdogs) full support if the president wants to invade Iran or Syria to chase down Saddam or any remnents of Al-Qaeda...right? You all sound so pathetically desperate.

Rev. Sharpton is absolutely correct on all counts!! What a wonderful President he would make! Unfortunately, the democrats hate and despise blacks and would never allow one to represent their party! Sharpton is like a Republican judicial nominee, he'll never have the opportunity for a vote because a biggoted minority of stupid, selfish bastards won't allow his name to be put to the vote. And, Sharpton would be such a great President... if he just wasn't black.
