A moral imperative: Banning partial-birth abortion

THERE COULD HARDLY be a better example of a special interest group at odds with prevailing public opinion but still winning major political victories than the abortion lobby’s success in twice persuading President Clinton to veto a ban on partial-birth abortions. Unfortunately for the pro-abortion camp, it couldn’t keep its allies in the White House forever. The election of President Bush has finally allowed the American public to have its way on this life-or-death issue.

Partial-birth abortion is a barbaric procedure in which a partially delivered infant is killed by a doctor, allowing it to be technically aborted. Were the baby’s head allowed to emerge intact, the infant would be a United States citizen, and killing it would be murder. With this procedure, the difference between abortion and murder is a matter of centimeters.

Nearly three-quarters of the American public supports banning the procedure, which explains why it has thrice passed the U.S. House by large margins. Yesterday House members approved the ban on a vote of 282-139.

Unlike his predecessor, President Bush has vowed to sign the bill, calling it “morally imperative and constitutionally permissible.”

Opponents of the ban say its language is unconstitutionally vague, but that does not seem to be true. Either way, we will find out soon enough. Opponents have pledged to challenge the ban’s legality the moment it becomes law.

It’s hard to imagine that anyone would be in favor of this gruesome practice, yet some people are. Though that is a troubling thought, it is encouraging that the collective conscience of the American people has finally won over the cynical maneuverings of a morally corrupt political faction.

Ever since I heard of this new technology, I've maintained that it is the Stealth Bomber that is going to zoom in under the pro-death crowd's radar and nuke them... once a woman sees what is really in her womb, it ceases to be a "tissue mass" and becomes... a baby. Her baby.
Silent Scream made an impact on those few who saw it.
Fetal Psychology wasn't even a blip.

It is worth noting that both of NH's 'pro-choice' Congressmen, Bass and Bradley, voted in favor of the bill.
