actually...there is..it's called the internet, and talk radio..personally, print media doesn't make sense any more..in a wired world..costs of printing and distribution are way to high..and magazines also..by the time you get them, they're dated..I didn't renew my subscription to Nation Review, after 30 years..it made no sense..I read all of it on-line each day..when my mag finally came, it was like reading last year's newspaper.....Time and Newsweek only exist for doctors offices and nbarbershops....

I figured those would be the two who'd have to go. I just wish I'd posted that prediction, too. Now you just have to take my word for it and trust me. ;-)

How much longer will the Ochs-Sulzberger family (which holds the voting stock in the corporation) allow Pinch to stay at the helm?

NEW YORK (AP) -- New York Times Executive Editor Howell Raines and Managing Editor Gerald Boyd resigned on Thursday in the wake of the Jayson Blair scandal.
WOMEN AND CHILDREN HARDEST HIT
Raines and Boyd were the central park jogger killers!
What? We can make stuff up too!

The New York Times has a choice: being the paper of record or the former paper of record. Given that the New York Times had its reputation ruined to the point they were not much better than the weekly tabloids that you get at the supermarket checkstand, small wonder why Raines and Finch got out before the lynch mob of American public opinion got them. It couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of folks.

Depends on who gets the job to "permanently" replace Raines. Time will tell.
To: aristeides
I actually think the NYT Corp is institutionally owned. I don't think the O-S family has a majority lock on the voting stock.
We could see a shareholder's coup.

Instead of "Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome," (SARS)... It should be "Severe Acute Media Syndrome," (SAMS)!!!
P.S. The tug-O-war on Wall Street has resumed today over the 9K barrier... BIGTIME!!!

A majority of the class of stock that votes in the majority of the board (and thus controls the corporation) is owned by a trust for the benefit of the members of the Ochs-Sulzberger family. How's that for leveraging?

By the time any printed Fishwrap is delivered to our homes or offices, as you noted, the news is old.
Zillions of trees and barrels of ink are wasted each year printing these fish wraps, which deliver old and outdated news with their biases and lies.
I stopped subscribing to Times and Newsweak back during President's Reagan's time. I won't even read them for free in my Dentist's office.

A few days before the Blair relevation, the Sacramento Bee hired a Black editor from the NYT's to be the SacBee Ombudsman. They have since had an almost total blackout of the NYT story Nice pun. Just as an aside, I didn't know Boyd was black until I just now saw his picture.
