[history]
A proposed law that would allow many undocumented immigrants to apply for California driver's licenses was approved by the state Senate today.
The bill now heads to the Assembly. Both houses last year approved similar legislation, but it was vetoed by Gov. Gray Davis because of security concerns.

If Davis signs this bill he should be recalled. This obviously puts him more at odds with the GOP and some Dems as well. Immigration is a hot button issue to a lot Dems.

Is there currently any federal law which requires states to acknowledge drivers' licences from other states? What would happen if states were allowed to refuse to accept licences from states which granted normal-looking licenses to illegal aliens?

How long can even "Democrats" in my state put up with this crap!
I think they are throwing everything out there because Davis will lose in the recall.
They are trying to bribe the vote early and often.

The latest bill removes those requirements and essentially treats all would-be drivers the same, whether they are here legally or illegally.Flee.
Get out of there, I beg of you.

The Full Faith and Credit Clause of the U.S. Constitution. Drivers' licenses are not judicial acts. If the FFACC applied automatically to administrative actions such as drivers' licenses, it would apply equally to concealed-carry permits. I am unaware of any court ever having held it to apply to those.

Sen. Gil Cedillo, D-Los AngelesPast president of the largest Mexican union in the US. Former ACLU lawyer. Graduate of a third rate law school.
Cedillo is the hallmark of everything that's wrong with the US today.
So how was he elected to the California senate? You'd get carsick trying to drive along the tortured boundries of his gerrymandered district in the heart of the illegal immigrant belt in Los Angeles.

it's the documents part. They're considered automatically valid until there's a law passed saying otherwise- consider the analogous situation of gay marriage.
The marriage licenses are presumed valid, which is why defense of marriage acts keep getting passed in states.

Its almost as if the Libs are purposly running that state into the ground. This way in 2004 they will blame it on Bush.

And for those who don't already know it, anyone who wants a Social Security card need only go to downtown Santa Ana. Why don't we just give back CA to Mexico and be done with it.

Most states have laws against the recognition of others; some are blanket no acceptance (California, for example) while others are limited (states with reciprocity).
