Ex-coach charged with indecency

A former high school coach in Livingston was arrested Tuesday for allegedly molesting two of his male students during weekend trips to Bryan.
Shannon Doc Wheat, 39, admitted to several school officials as well as the parents of both alleged victims that the accusations were true, court documents state. He had been taking advantage of male students for more than a year, he is reported to have told school officials.
Wheat resigned from the school district in March, after a third boy told authorities he fought back when the teacher tried to touch him in the middle of the night.
According to statements from several alleged victims, Wheat would take boys on weekend trips to work on his grandmothers farm in Bryan. He would then tell them, court documents state, that his grandmother didnt like to use air conditioning and that they should get a hotel room.
At least one boy told police he thought it was strange that Wheat would always rent a room with one bed.
That boy one of two who Wheat has so far been charged of indecency with said he took about 30 trips to Bryan with the teacher beginning in the summer of 2001, when he was 13.
Wheat would always hand the boy pills to help him sleep, telling the boy he had a snoring problem, the student told police. When they would wake up in the morning, the boy would find Wheat cuddling with him, he said.
One night in 2001, the boy told police, he woke up to find Wheat touching him inappropriately. But he didnt tell authorities, he said, because he thought it might have been a dream and he was afraid people would think he was gay.
The second boy told police Wheat touched him in fall of 2001, when he was 16. After the trip, the boy told his parents and they had a meeting with Wheat.
But after Wheat offered to pay for counseling for the boy and promised not to do it again, the family decided not to alert authorities, the boy told police. Wheat was a father figure, the boy said, and he didnt want to ruin the mans life.
According to Livingston school district officials, Wheat confessed to touching the students after another boy talked to the school superintendent.
The third boy, who isnt part of the current charges against Wheat, told the official that he fought back when Wheat tried to touch him at El Camino Hotel in Bryan.
After running out of the room in the middle of the night, the boy called his parents and had them drive from Livingston to pick him up, he said.
Wheat is being held at the Brazos County Jail on $500,000 bond.

H.S. coach remains jailed for indecency with students06/04/2003
BRYAN, Texas - A former Livingston High School athletic trainer remained jailed Wednesday, accused of indecency with two male students during weekend trips to Bryan in 2001, authorities said.
Shannon "Doc" Wheat, 39, was arrested Tuesday after he admitted to several school officials and parents that the accusations against him were true, according to court documents obtained by The Bryan-College Station Eagle.
Wheat resigned in March after working at the school since 1988, school officials said.
During the trips, the victims told authorities they would stay in a hotel room with Wheat, who took the students to Bryan to work on his grandmother's farm, the newspaper reported Wednesday.
The school system said in a prepared statement released by district official Shelly Hullihen that it was "deeply saddened" by the events which led to Wheat's arrest.
"Although the alleged incidents did not occur during school functions, the school district has taken every precaution to ensure that students affected by the events have been given the opportunity for counseling and the proper information to contact law enforcement," the statement said.
Brazos County Jail officials said Wheat's bond has been set at $ 500,000 and he faces two charges of indecency with a child and one charge of aggravated sexual assault.
One of the two boys Wheat is accused of having inappropriate contact with told police he took 30 trips with Wheat to Bryan beginning in the summer of 2001. Police said the boy told them Wheat would give him pills to help him sleep and he would wake up with the teacher cuddling with him, according to the newspaper.
The boy said Wheat touched him inappropriately in 2001, but he didn't report what happened because he didn't want people to think he was gay.
Another boy told police, according to the newspaper, that Wheat touched him in 2001. The then 16-year-old boy told his parents, who confronted Wheat.
When Wheat promised not to do it again and offered to pay for counseling for the boy, his parents opted not to tell authorities, the paper reported.
Livingston school district officials learned of the accusations against Wheat when a third boy contacted the superintendent in March. When confronted, Wheat confessed and resigned from his job, the paper reported.

Did bill clinton ever "have" any male interns?
But the NEA would love for him to be a Boy Scout leader.

Yeah, one has to wonder. Had they done the right thing and reported him, others wouldn't have had to endure this pervert's actions.
Not being a lawyer, I have no idea what their legal culpability might be in this.
Thanks for that URL. Here is the pic:
Good one Arthur.
I know a father whose daughter was raped at 12-years-old by a man who lived across the alley (wealthy suburb by the way). When the daughter was a college freshman she revealed the rape to her father.
The rapist (who was raising 2 girls by himself) had moved some years before to a foreign country. The father wrote a letter to the rapist saying that if he ever saw him again he would go to the police, but as he never did see him again he didn't go to the police to spare his daughter further hurt.
Did he behave rightly?
They need to be able to give their entire selves to their pupils.
