According to the official proclamation (see below for the full text), Gov. Granholm called on all citizens of Michigan to "celebrate our diversity" and be more "inclusive and accepting" of openly gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
Unfortunately, Granholm's call is in defiance of the teachings of the Catholic Church, which say that "Homosexual persons are called to chastity" (CCC 2359) and that homosexual relations are acts of "grave depravity" and are "intrinsically disordered" (CCC 2357).
Granholm's proclamation for June is just another example of why the governor ought to be formally disciplined for the grave and public scandal she is causing the Catholic Church in Michigan.
Earlier this year, a Feb. 14th Detroit News article entitled "Same-sex couples challenge law: Gays want right to marry," revealed that Gov. Granholm had reiterated her support for recognizing same-sex unions in Michigan, again despite Catholic teaching which prohibits such recognition.
The News article reported that Elizabeth Boyd, the governor's spokeswoman, said the governor "does support something that would recognize a commitment between same sex couples."
However, a Jan. 16, 2003 statement issued by the Vatican entitled "Doctrinal Note on some questions regarding the participation of Catholics in political life," indicated that "in no way can other forms of cohabitation be placed on the same level as marriage, nor can they receive legal recognition as such."
The Note was "directed to the Bishops of the Catholic Church" and particularly "to Catholic politicians and all lay members of the faithful called to participate in the political life of democratic societies."
Dr. Monica Migliorino-Miller, director of the Stop Granholm Church and Truth Project, criticized Granholm's continued defiance of Catholic teaching: "The time for Ecclesial responsibility has come. We must all pray for the conversion of Jennifer Granholm and pray that the Bishops of Michigan will do what is right."
As of now, Granholm's Bishop, Adam Cardinal Maida, has not addressed Gov. Granholm's status in the Catholic in spite of her repeated public denials of his authority and Church teaching.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month
Whereas, Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) people of Michigan have made important and lasting contributions to the State of Michigan in every field of endeavor; however, GLBT individuals often face discrimination and even violence, resulting in many who have hid or denied their sexual orientation or gender identity in order to keep their jobs or to live safely in their communities; and,
Whereas, In recent years, progress has led to the righting of many of these wrongs; since the Stonewall uprising in New York City more than 30 years ago, the GLBT rights movement has united the GLBT community, their families and friends, and all those committed to justice and equality in a crusade to ban discrimination and to protect GLBT individuals from prejudice and persecution; and,
Whereas, Today, more openly gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals serve in senior posts throughout state government than during any other administration; and
Whereas, Many challenges still exist, and as we have learned from recent tragedies, prejudice against GLBT individuals can still erupt into acts of hatred and violence, which is why recognition and support of the work being done by our GLBT community based organizations is critical as we work toward acceptance, safety and equality every day; and,
Whereas, With each passing year, Michigan continues to strive towards greater diversity and openness in support of each persons identity; our State is realizing that GLBT individuals must no longer be "strangers among friends,'' as the civil rights pioneer David Mixner once noted, rather, we recognize these Michigan citizens for what they are: our colleagues and neighbors, daughters and sons, sisters and brothers, friends and partners; and,
Whereas, This June, recognizing the joys and sorrows that the GLBT movement has witnessed and the work that remains to be done, we observe Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month and celebrate the progress we have made and will continue to make in creating a society more inclusive and accepting of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people; together we will continue to break down the walls of fear and prejudice and work to build a bridge to understanding and tolerance; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June, 2003, as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month. I encourage all citizens to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities which celebrate our diversity and recognize the GLBT Americans whose many and varied contributions have enriched our lives in this state and in the nation.

An entire MONTH, I hate Detroit for voting this Governor in.
Lets start with what they didn't do for the country, nation and civilization.
1. The can not further mankind by producing off spring. Reason for this is, they have the wrong body parts in the wrong holes. 2. They ultimately would destroy civilization as we know it. Gov. if your proud of that and the folks of Michigan are also, they will give you a second term.
Nevertheless, this is fit only for satire. The idea of a State proclaiming a celebration of pride in perversion, is surely to mock not only religioius values, but any and every aspect of the human experience, which depends upon a recognition of truth: An acceptance of reality, the pursuit of knowledge, the importance of understanding what is true and enduring, and what is not.
I have been concerned about the border between the Southwestern States and Mexico. But if this is where Michigan is going, I think that we Ohioans will need to start worrying about our Northern border. This is almost beyond belief. Yet thanks to Clinton's Fabian Agenda, it is not quite.
