Please see my #23 above.

I overheard snippets of a restaurant conversation last week where a guy was talking about KNEW as a KSFO alternative. I'll have to check it out.

KSFO's reception is generally poor in the San Jose area, especially early in the morning. They do something to boost the signal weekdays around 7:15 a.m.

The problem is KNEW isn't streaming yet.

KSFO's reception is generally poor in the San Jose area,
especially early in the morning. They do something to
boost the signal weekdays around 7:15 a.m.

Looking at KSFO's technical parameters - they show to be
licensed for the same power level day and night BUT the
difference lies in the antenna pattern allowed during the
day versus their nightime broadcast hours.

This is often done to protect a "co-channel" station
(another station somewhere on the same frequency in a
different area) from interference at night, most likely
a station that 'was there first' and they get 'dibs' on
the frequency at night first.

KSFO technical parameters (partial):

 Licensee: KGO-AM RADIO, INC.

560 kHz Licensed
Domestic Station Class: B Region 2 Station Class (corresponds to W. Hemisphere): B

KSFO AM 560 kHz DAN Daytime B B LIC SAN FRANCISCO CA US BL-- 5.0 kW 34472 KGO-AM RADIO, INC.
KSFO AM 560 kHz DAN Nighttime B B LIC SAN FRANCISCO CA US BL-19800506AE 5.0 kW 34472 KGO-AM RADIO, INC.

DAN - Directional Antenna: Nighttime only
Number of Augmentations to standard directional pattern: 2
