Please supply a web link to the German translation.

I am a German <> English translator and will tell you what I think of its accuracy.

YES!!

That image should have been posted with the article.

How's this? :)

France seems to us an aging whore, desperate to attract even the most diseased customers.

MiaT and Registered should see this thread (and brilliant article). One or both of them could certainly come up with an interesting image to accompany this article! :-)

They are the same ones that flamed me back in 2000 for saying the U.N. is a terrible threat to our constitution and freedom and that France and Germany are our enemies.

Do you really care how they respond since they don't seem to think? I sure don't.

I can't find a link to this article on the FAZ.net.

I wonder if it's just in the English edition.

Can't find this on the FAZ.net. Do you have a link?

I'm not a translator, but I took German forever and still read it fairly well. I'd like to see the translation myself.

"Thanks for posting this! Can you provide a link to the original article?"

I am sorry, but it was forwarded to me in an email from an Army Buddy. The newspaper is listed. I understand someone read the German translation and it was apparently brutal. I guess the German Media Whores belong to the same fraternity as ours!

"The street may feel this way, but our government has another agenda. Agenda 21 globalism in which eventually you will not be able to travel nor buy or sell anything without permission. There will be no such thing as private ownership and no such thing as a non-government employee paid or not paid. Europe is galloping towards it now and so is D.C. as soon as they can figgure out how to void the constitution, either via the votes of third world hordes, or treaties, or the Supreme Court."

My God! How can you sleep at night with this form of galloping paranoia! You are either exhausted, or you have some pretty potent meds!

Thanks.

In the translation by Michael Bischoff excerpted online, I see no inaccuracies. Of course, no two translators will produce identical versions of anything that does not fit on a matchbook cover.

However, Bischoff's translation accurately captures both the content and the style of Peters' op-ed (or if you prefer, "horsewhipping").

The exception is the headline, which has nothing to do with the original English headline. Most likely it was a brainchild not of the translator but of the editor. (Some newspaper editors feel they haven't earned a day's pay before they've rewritten at least one headline.)

Relations between the US and Germany will recover to some extent from their current low. At the end of the day, the US is still the world's lone superpower, and it is not smart policy to oppose it too long. But I don't see many Germans (including conservatives) about to risk anything in confronting the Arab leaders and clerics who daily work up a drumbeat of hate against Israel.

Here is a recent exchange between me and a German Freeper who claims allegiance to the ideals of former German chancellor Konrad Adenauer. I told him that at least with regard to his atttitude towards Israel, he could not be more wrong.

Hi Redleg! Thanks for posting the op-ed!

The German translation (at least the excerpts that I've seen) is accurate.

A pleasure. As an American of German and Scots-Irish roots, I take no pleasure in the demise of the Fatherland, but then, my ancestors left that place for a good reason and I am an American.
