KATSINA, Nigeria - An Islamic court in northern Nigeria on Tuesday postponed the appeal of a woman condemned to death by stoning for sex outside marriage.

Shariah Appeals Court registrar Dalhat Abubakar said Amina Lawal's case was being deferred until Aug. 27 as two of the panel's four judges would be unavailable until then.

Those judges should take this extra time to closely inspect their stupid Shariia laws. Time to step into the 21st Century, guys.

I suppose you'll tell us that Nigeria is just one more nation that has corrupted the message of Islam.

Sharia is so liberating, yes?

Officials of Katsina State - one of a dozen in Nigeria's predominantly Muslim north to have adopted strict Islamic law, or Shariah

These "Officials" are just doing their job... just as we have "Officials" presuming the "War on Drugs"... Both groups of "Officials" insist they are working for the public good... Both meet out strict punishment way out of proportion... Both are "Morality Police"... the list could go on and on...

I can't tell, but I saw a while back she wanted to marry the guy.

The second question, no. He won't be convicted.

If I remember this case correctly, the woman states she was raped. But, since Sharia requires multiple male witnesses to this crime for charges to be made, she failed to be able to press her case. Whereas the birth of the child is obvious proof that she had sex with someone.

It's worth noting that Islamic countries often state as proof of their superiority in treating women that they have much less incidence of rape than Western countries do. What they fail to state is that it's almost impossible for a case of rape to be even charged, never mind proven, in their courts. The use of DNA technology is unheard of, although in this case I don't know how relevant that is because I don't remember if the father denies paternity or not.

Yes, she initialy claimed the rape. But she later she was pressurized to make that claim by her family.

I'm pro-life but this law is a valid case for abortion.
