Small flags flew over the graves of Confederate veterans leading up to Sunday's Confederate Memorial Day observances.

Missouri was a slave state...., but did not join the Civil War confederacy.

But how can that be?

I finally caught up with "Ride With the Devil" on USA this weekend. The war in Missouri was a war of guerillas and irregulars, pitting neighbor against neighbor.

This is one thing that has not changed over time.

Missourians are tough by nature. I'll have to check out the program- -Hopefully it will rerun, soon.

...pitting neighbor against neighbor.

That was true in all the border south states, and throughout much of the south as well.

It's well worth renting. If all the secesh women looked like Jewel I'd be whistling Dixie with the best of them.

My favorite quote of the day (from CholeraJoe's profile):

Memo to Terrorists*: Fear me. There are millions like me. You will not hijack any aircraft upon which I am a passenger without killing me first. If you try I will strangle you with my belt, kick you in the b*lls with my steel-toed cowboy boots or break your heathen neck with my bare hands. I will not stand by and allow this nation to become paralyzed by your threats and attacks.

Hooo boy.... sentiments more effective than caffeine at getting THIS Freeper fired up. Good job.

I think he subscribes to a "Boy does the South suck" alert service. Anytime anything is written that doesn't blame the South 100% for slavery or that slavery wasn't the only cause of the civil war and they email him.

There was a line in the movie that resonated. It was when the father of the house where George was visiting described Lawrence, Kansas.

He said the first thing that was built was the school. The abolitionists of Lawrence were very concerned that everyone think alike, without respect to custom or propriety. Southerners, by contrast, didn't care how other people lived and thought.

In the scene of Quantrill's raid on Lawrence, I noticed that the school was the first building put to the torch.

That's right. After learning the three R's, you never know what kind of evil thoughts the students could have. < Sarcasm >

No matter what one's position on the Civil War, and its causes and consequences, a Confederate graveyard must certainly be seen as an appropriate place to fly the Confederate flag.

I believe that Walt is suspended for a period of time. I'm sure if you ask the Moderator, he will tell you this as well.
