WHY DID THE U.S. ISSUE A STAMP CELEBRATING THE MUSLIM HOLIDAY OF EID?
e-mail and USPS ^ | 2 June 2003

Posted on 06/02/2003 7:50:31 AM PDT by MeneMeneTekelUpharsin

It has come to my attention that the United States Postal Service issued a stamp commemorating the Muslim holiday of EID. Go the the link to read more about the issuance of that stamp just PRIOR TO 911!!!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the military barracks in Saudi Arabia!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the American Embassies in Africa!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the USS COLE!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM attack on the Twin Towers on 9/11/2001!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of residential areas in Ridyah, Saudi Arabia!

REMEMBER all the AMERICAN lives that were lost in Iraq to Shiite MUSLIM attacks!

The United States Postal Service REMEMBERS and HONORS the EID MUSLIM holiday season with a commemorative first class holiday postage stamp which was first issued in August of 2001!

REMEMBER to adamantly and vocally BOYCOTT this stamp when purchasing your stamps at the post office. To use this stamp would be a slap in the face to all those AMERICANS who died at the hands of those whom this stamp honors.

Because the administration doesn't have the strength of your convictions.

(shrug)The Post Office prints Christmas stamps, it prints Haunnaka (I know I butchered that sp) stamps, why wouldn't it print stamps honoring Muslim holidays?

All this frothing at the mouth as if each and every Muslim on the planet is planning to blow up his neighborhood. It's stupid, and it smacks of a kind of racism.

It would be better if the government just produced a standard stamp with an eagle on it, and didn't bother "commemorating" this, that and the other thing. Stamps are necessary to move the mail, all the rest is not the government's business.

I think part of the reason for commemorative stamps is that they're profitable. Collecters buy them, but don't use them. If there were no commemorative stamps, this additional market would disappear, and postal rates would be even higher.

I know, they are so politically incorrect! Compare them to the designs on the state quarters, which are very PC. For instance, they could not get an inclusive design on the Texas quarter, so they ended up just putting a star. The Alamo was considered too insulting to Mexicans...

Well isn't Texas jointly owned by Mexico and US?

If being a "conservative" today requires Muslim-bashing, then I'm all the more glad I'm a libertarian.

You must know nothing of Islam. There can never be Muslim Bashing when you speak of the truth of Islam.

Muslims want non muslims to either submit to Islam or die, Period. That is their theology.

And if a Muslim says this is a lie, then you know he lies because the Quran tells all Muslims to lie to non Muslims in regards to the truth about Islam.

Truth is hate to those who hate the truth.

Exactly right...the Koran teaches that. The Koran also teaches that a Muslim who leaves the "faith" is to be executed. How many times does this need to be said? Any religion, (including mine if it WERE to do so) that teaches that type of philosophy is evil and will lead to evil deeds by its followers. It is not racism, but logic that produces my thought process about Islam.

I am not going to continue justifying my position to individuals who do not want to understand logic and reason. Furthermore, our troops are still dying at the hands of people who grew up under that philosophy. And, our troops will continue to die. Israelis will continue to die with suicide bombings. Americans here will eventually die if this religion is left unchecked. Simple logic. Once it happens, the apologists will not be found anymore. Reason: Human pride prevents apology and admission of error.

So if postal rates could be reduced by having the USPS run whore-houses out of the back of Post Offices, should they do that? I mean, if they didn't, postal rates would be even higher, wouldn't they?

The government should make it's money through taxation. If you want them to make money in other ways, be prepared to accept them doing all sorts of foolish things in pursuit of a buck.

I prefer that govt make money through means other than taxation. User fees, commerative stamps, Off-Track Betting (as in NY), and lottos are all better, since they are voluntary. I'd rather others voluntarily subsidize govt, so as to lower my tax burden.

Well, I've heard that the Talmud teaches it's okay for Jews to lie and swindle Gentiles, and that Gentiles are lesser people. The Canaanites are certainly treated as deserving of death, merely because Yaweeh said so. And Christians have a history of killing Jews and Muslims in crusades and inquisitions, merely because they were "infidels" or "heathen" or whatever.

Humanity has cruel and tribalistic roots, and that includes all religions and races. Dig into any group's past, and you can cherry pick unsavory quotes.

Sure, modern Jews and Christians have evolved from the uglier elements in their past (the Bible celebrates much cruelty) -- but so too have many Muslims. None of these religions have an unblemished history or dogma.

But many "conservatives" are playing a double standard. They judge Islams by its bad (and ignore the good), and judge Judaism and Christianity by its good (and ignore the bad).

Sorry, but I delcine to take "sides" in a religious war. I'll continue judging individuals by the content of their character, and not by atavistic quotes from millenia old texts.

User fees, commemrative stamps, OTB and lottos are all very inefficient ways to collect money. For the money taken in by the government, only something like 20% is available for government programs. Better to collect one quarter that amount in an 80% efficient tax, and minimize the burden on society.

BTW, did you know that NYC Off Track Betting routinely loses money? (That's looses in FReep-speak). So NYC is running these smelly, smarmy betting parlours all over town, and actually has to pay to keep them open. But the mayor can't close them, because it's impossible to cut any government program.

I used to live next door to one of these places. I always had a dozen cigar-smoking "patrons" outside my window, and a constant stream of people going to the back yard of the apartment building to pee on the bushes. And that place was losing money! I was paying tax money to keep that place open!

Yes you are correct.

But-----if you look at what the Muslims are doing today with what was written, you cannot deny that these people just can't get along with anybody.

There are 146 wars going on in this world today. Of those 146, 142 involve Islam / Muslims.

Talmudic/athiestic Jews are no better. They take advantage of anyone and everyone.

You are incorrect about the Crusades.

The Crusades were the result of Islamic insurgence into FRance, Spain and most of Europe.

The Crusades were used to get rid of Islam because the peoples of these regions new how ruthless Islam is.

YOur comments about the Bible are interesting. I don't believe the Bible celebrates cruelty. It just reports that it did happen and that it was needed in many instances to decapitate a heathen power.

The Quran is just a bunch of writings from Clerics who put their own ideas into a book after watching Mohammed go into his epilleptic fits.

There was no inspiration for the Quran, osther than hate of the Christians / Jews who rejected Mr. Mohammed and his band of kooks.

Ps.....Mohammed was a terrorist and participated in many killings....NIce Guy huh?

There are violent people in all religions, but many civilized Muslims too. I've met a few here in L.A. who are secular, the women in modern dress and they have careers.

There are 146 wars going on in this world today. Of those 146, 142 involve Islam / Muslims.

That number's been circulating the internet, and I suppose talk radio too. I don't know how accurate it is. But there are some billion Muslims in the world, so it's only natural that people of Muslim faith are "involved" in many wars. How many Christian nations were "involved" in World Wars One and Two?

Mohammed was a terrorist and participated in many killings....

"Terrorist" is a modern word. Another way to look at it is that Mohammed was a "warrior" -- same as Charles the Great (who was crowned Holy Roman Emperor for his war-making), the Cursaders, the Israelists (who were aggresors as much as aggresed against), and a whole host of nominally Christian or Jewish kings and leaders. Moses was arguably as much a warrior/terrorist as Mohammed. Moses came upon Canaan and waged an aggressive war on them.

I don't know that Mohammed was any more a "terrorist" than other rulers of his era. Sure, Christ and Buddha were peaceful, but many religious leaders (popes too) were warriors.

I think there's cruelty in the Bible. It's an uneven book, probably because it has many authors. Look at all the punishments that God inflicts. There's one story about a guy who's helping carry the Arc of the Covenant, and he slips against it, and thus is stricken dead.
