It has been one of those Lazy, do nothing days here......dishes still sitting in the sink from our late lunch. Ribs, home made creamed corn, oven fried potatoes, and some garlic bread.

Hello friends! Checking in from Brisbane. It's Sunday, 12:45 PM here. Finally got an internet connection. What an ordeal! When the hotel told us they had private internet connection in each room, they meant that they had a separate phone jack. It was a beginning, but it didn't exactly get us on-line. LOL. The hotel doesn't have broadband or dsl, as we assumed, so we needed a local dial-up. Then we found we could buy a twenty hour CD from Big Pond that allows us to connect. Although, (for our protection) it is illegal in Australia to connect to the internet with a modem that was not made in Australia. We were told it could fry our modem because of the difference in the electrical current. We have a converter, so were able to work our way around the modem problem and took our chances.....our modem is still functioning........so far, so good. :-)

Only problem is, we are connected at 28.8.......gives me a whole new appreciation for dsl, AND a great deal of sympathy for people with slow connections. I had an impossible time getting this thread to open, and it doesn't have even half the graphics that some of our threads do.

Having a great time here. Australians are some of the friendliest people I have ever met, the weather is perfect, and Brisbane is a beautiful city. I haven't seen any koalas, kookaburras, roos or wallabies. Our schedule is so tight at the convention, I don't know if I am going to get to see any wildlife at all. . We did have an Ibis join us for lunch yesterday, at a sidewalk cafe. One big hungry looking bird! He wanted to sit at our table while we ate. We almost had to let him. LOL

Tonight is the opening ceremonies at the Rotary International Convention. It is supposed to be spectacular. I'll check back in when I can. Hope you all are having a great weekend.

PS : I have modem connection at 26400 .... sloooow, so I understand the frustration with loading images. I can usually read several posts and return for images later.
