Dowd clever ?? I always thought that "clever" was a compliment to one's intellectual sparring capabilities or insightedness ( is that a word?). In Dowd's case, I wouldn't use that term, but rather: shifty, devious, manipulative, cagey, circuitous, liberallike, you name it.
