WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Bush administration on Thursday defended the decision of congressional negotiators to deny millions of minimum-wage-earning families the increased child tax credit.
White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said the new tax law was intended to help people who pay taxes, not those who are too poor to pay.

How unfair, those who don't pay taxes are not getting a reduction. If you paid no taxes before, you will still pay no taxes, instead of getting a handout, a redistribution of income from those who are paying taxes. This isn't a socialist taxcut, how unfair. (/sarcasm)
And apparently Olympia Snowe agrees with the Democrats.

Hey Fumb Duck you no payee you no winee.
Pay taxes and then you get rebates.
As for OLY, her husband and the last governor of Maine drove industry out of maine with exorbitant tax rates, restrictions on growth and a bloat social services system.
Oh yeah they got a bunch of ranger killers in Lewiston.
OLY is living up to the George Mitchell model of economic growth.

They should get a percentage rather than some set amount. I would say that 10% is fair.
Let's see now... 10% of 0 would be...
Better make it 20%.

They promised to propose a bill that would extend the increased credit to those denied it: most families earning from $10,500 to $26,625. The measure would cost $3.5 billion, and could embarrass Republicans if they chose to vote against it. OK .. let me get this straight .. These Dems all voted AGAINST the last 3 tax cuts but now they want to vote for a tax cut/credit for people who don't pay taxes???

What'ya wanna bet that most of these minimum wage workers with children are not also receiving some sort of government assistance in addition to their wages?
Ann Lewis was on Michael Medvid's show yesterday. Several times I found myself wanting to reach out and slap that bi-ch silly.
At one point a man called in saying he and his wife made $110 thousand yearly. He said they both worked very hard, had children and he wondered why Lewis didn't think they were a hard working family deserving a tax cut. Here's what she said. "Yes I think you're a hard working family deserving of a tax cut."
Imagine Ann Lewis tell this guy he deserved a tax cut. Face it, this guy is one of the unwashed rich that Lewis reviles. He's probably in the top one or two perctile of wage earners in the nation. How many times have you heard Dems talk about tax cuts only benefiting the rich? But here was Ann lying her ass off!
Ann went on to explain that she supported tax cuts. Of course everyone knows that the Dems oppose tax cuts right now because of the ballooning deficits. In fact you can't shut them up about those deficits and slandering the idea of tax cuts.
The next caller reminded Ann that Clinton implemented the largest tax increase in US history, which hurt working families and the poor. Ann stated that the Clinton tax increase only affected the rich. What Ann didn't mention was that the rich were only making around $25k in those days, because that's how low the changed tax rates impacted wage earners. In light of this, reflect on her comments to the caller I just mentioned making $110k per year. He makes four times as much as the rich people mentioned in this paragraph, yet Ann says she thinks he deserves a tax cut. LMAO, this woman is shameless.
There are times when I find that I disagree with Republicans. Hardly ever do I feel dirty after listening to them. When Ann you feel soiled after listening for a few minutes. You know she's a lying jackass who wouldn't know a moral issue if it slapped her silly.

The Bush folks are dumbfounded by this dumbness. Why don't they just announce that those in the 10k-26k range have been given a 100 percent tax cut by the tax-cut bill?! Of course the Dems will say "This is unfair because those people don't pay any....oh wait...uh...never mind!"
To: DPB101
"CNN's Aaron Brown reported on this at lenght and never mentioned that those Democrats want to get the money don't pay income taxes. "
---
Of course not. CNN's objective is not to tell the truth, but the make Bush and the Republicans seem to be "for the rich" and "against the poor".
To: FairOpinion
Low-income people, he added, already are appreciative of the fact that they pay no income taxes yet benefit from federal programs. Huh. About time, then. I was getting tired of listening to the shiftless Democrat ingrates demanding ever-greater subsidies from out of my earnings.

Careful there, you're sounding like a believer! Dems don't give a hoot about ballooning deficits. They use it as a good sound bite. It's part of their lying daily talking points and marching orders.

I'm with you. Unless the Bush folks think the Dems are self destructing and don't want to interrupt the process by engaging in a debate, I can't figure out their silence. Seems to me that calling attention to their idiocy would get more news coverage and spotlight their pathetic beliefs of "fairness". I'm baffled...

I think he was just being sarcastic, because the Democrats exactly who have been causing the deficits throughout history and even now, because they refuse to cut any of the pork and useless expenditures from the budget. That is why it's ridiculous the way they carry on about the deficits. But of course they still don't want to cut spending, they just harp on how much it "costs" and they "can't afford" to let us keep more of our money.

I think the silence of the Republicans points out a weakness of the Republicans: they are not strong enough in propaganda or counteracting it aggressively. They really need to work on that.
The Democrats get away with their lies, because Republicans don't come out and refute them in plain English.
I hope Rush will take this up in his radio program and get the ball rolling.

Now I am going to do it! Call me dumb or whatever, but this time I have to have too! ( I am going to argue a wee bit liberal....don't hit me too hard!) Now I am in the income bracket of the dreaded $26,000. For the last 5 years I and my husband chose this, so that I could stay home with my teenage girls....yet hubby's income is still taxed to death and we pay taxes!!!!!!! Got some back this year, not alot, and we did get the $548 check with the first tax cut.....anyway, I think we should be involved in this one as well. Now my sister is in the same boat, with two small children, her hubbies income is about 2-3 grand lower, but she is too damn proud to take governmental handouts and does what she can, should she not have child-care cuts as well?
I pray this was one huge oversight, and will be fixed.....I am not advocating that when one pays no tax at all, they should get a tax cut and I can't remember at what income bracket that is, nor do I advocate anyone getting medical care, etc. a tax cut, for they already are, but there are some going to drop threw the cracks here, and the dems are loving it!
To: countrydummy
Everyone who pays taxes benefits. If you paid any taxes, you will pay less after this taxcut. Only those who aren't paying any taxes aren't going to get something.
It's similar to having a coupon which gives you $1 off a cheap item. Suppose you shop in a store where that item is $1.35 normally. With the coupon, it will only cost you 35 cents. But if that same item is selling for 80 cents in another store and you present the coupon, you will get the item free, but they are not going to give you 20 cents "change" from the coupon.

They have a rough estimate -- interactive -- at CNN:
http://money.cnn.com/news/specials/taxcut/ Top right. You choose your approx income bracket and they tell you approx. how uch you save.
In the $20,000 to $30,000 bracket it says you save about $189. ( assuming you do pay taxes)
To: countrydummy
More:
Also at CNN, it says that the standard deduction for married couples is increased to $9,500.
I think by the time you also take deductions for your girls, your income gets way down where you pay very little or no taxes.
They also have ( as a normal thing, some $3,000 excemption per person in addition), so if you have two kids, that is 4 x $3,000 = $12,000
Adding the standard deductions and personal exemptions gets you to $21,500.
Then in addition you get the child tax credit, earned income credit and pretty much pay no taxes.
So you are about as well off as someone who makes $50,000, but pays half in taxes.

I and my family are some of those who will not get a tax break because we do not earn enough money.
-my husband served 22 years in the military
-he is 100% disabled and his militarn pension is forfit because he gets VA disability
-we have 4 young children
-I work as much as I can as often as I can but because he needs constant care that is not much
-I do not get any government assistance for taking care of him but if I don't he will have to be put in a 'home' and the cost will be deducted from his disability which will leave us with nothing
-I am desperatly trying to hold my family together but have trouble buying my children clothing, paying for dental care, and feeding us
-I know you do not like to hear this but after 22 years of long hours and sacrifice we deserve more than worrying if we will be able to keep our home and feed our kids
