Is "The View" Attempting to play politics?
Posted on 05/29/2003 8:33:15 AM PDT by jonalvy44
**Prior thread was pulled. Mod said not breaking news. I would think another example of the left-wing media trying to influence viewer opinion via false reports of hatemail by Republicans would warrant breaking news...sorry. -------------------------
I'd like to see proof of this allegation by Star Jones...I cannot believe that 500 people that would tune in to both AI and The View would say such things via email.
She's already introduced politics into this accusation by inferring that it's Republicans saying such nasty things. This could be another example of leftist media trying to taint public opinion of Republicans!
I cannot believe she has received over 500 emails full of hate and racism.
I'd like to see proof. she should be willing to come forward with the emails. Something stinks here.

'IDOL' HATE STUNS STAR
By MICHAEL STARR --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/76944.htm
May 29, 2003 -- 'THE View" co-host Star Jones says she's received hundreds of hateful e-mails for her on-air support of "American Idol 2" winner Ruben Studdard.
"I have to tell you, being on this show six years, I have never received such vicious e-mails . . . 'Take Ruben and go back to Africa,' vicious things," Jones said on "The View" yesterday to gasps from the audience.
"I'm shocked at the level of acrimony, at the viciousness," Jones told The Post. "I'm used to people coming after me - I'm on TV and it's my job to express my opinion.
"But to take my true excitement over ['American Idol'] and match it with a young man who won and to make it a race issue is disheartening more than anything.
"I'm more offended that in this day and age I'd get such racist and hateful e-mail."
Jones said that "about 10 percent" of the 5,000-plus e-mails she received over the course of discussing "American Idol" have been nasty.
"I was such a big Gore supporter and was pretty verbal in my support of the Democrats in the last election . . . and I got a lot of mail saying, 'You're a liberal b**ch,' " Jones said. "But I didn't get the level of racist anger I've received over this.
"It's really sad that some people took a wonderful way for people to have their dreams come true and turn it into a lesson on race relations."
Throughout the run of "AI2," Jones had been a big booster of Studdard, the soft-spoken "velvet teddy bear" from Birmingham, Ala. who eventually won the contest, barely beating runner-up Clay Aiken

The View is NOT attempting to play politics. They are playing politics, every day, actively, with every word they say, and every story they do. They want to shape those little heads filled with mush into pointy headed clones of Tom Daschle.

I don't watch the show, I've just hear dof their Bush-bashing with Jamie Lee Curtis. I think this takes the cake and she should be called on it.

I think someone should tell Star to look at racism, not Republicanism. Pretty sad that she can't see it that way.

The View..."Attempting to play politics"?
They have always...and they tend to lean very progressively left.

Star Jones is an uninteresting big mouth with delusions of grandeur. Her likeability quotient, the metric by which actual star power is gauged, is below just about any other performer on television. If she didn't have other people around her to draw viewers in no one would watch her, and once "The View" goes off the air she will never be heard from again.

You are so right! The left associates all racism with Republicans. As if no one can be a racist unless they're on the right. Yeah, suuuuure.

You can bet that these 5 liberal women will be turning up the heat on Republicans more & more as the 2004 election approaches.
McCain-Feingold will shut down "issue" adds (such as from the NRA)........but this propaganda show will be totally unaffected.
You can bank on it.

Jones said that "about 10 percent" of the 5,000-plus e-mails she received over the course of discussing "American Idol" have been nasty. So about 90% were supportive. So what is she complaining about then?

I do not watch this show, because they are very left wing obvious democrats. I do not share their "VIEW" of things at all...so, I don't tune in.
But, from the article it is obvious that Star Jones did NOT equate the hate letters to Republicans...where did you get such a bunch of tripe?!
She obviously stated that the Republicans who disagreed with her on politics KEPT TO THE ISSUES and DID NOT bring race into the issue! Her point is that the letters against her views on Ruben were much more racist and mean than the letters about her views on Gore, when she obviously expected the political opposition to be much worse!
I guess she doesn't realise that people who follow politics, might be a little more intelligent than those whose whole world revolves around a tv show!

I don't read it that way. It seems to me that she's contrasting the e mail from Conservative Republicans (and yes, she is a liberal bitch and a fat stupid cow too) with the racist email she's getting from the racist democraps now.
It really shouldn't come as such a surprise to her, since the democraps are the party of Sheets Byrd and George Wallace, just to mention two. But when you're too stupid to direct your mind off of where you're next Ho ho is coming from, you'll sit on the democrap plantation, fat dumb and happy, and do just as your told.

Well, the Problem here, as I see it, is this....TheView attempting to play 'politics' would be about as effective as my 5 year old, who while incredibly bright, is still 5 years old, attempting to play 'Nuclear Physics Professor'.

I was wondering when someone who actually read the article would point out, as you did, the seemingly obvious that Star Jones wasn't equating Republicans who e-mailed her with the racists, but instead contrasting them. Some of the folks here appear to be at least as dumb as the watchers of The View.

I don't believe she received all of those threats. I do believe that all races liked both the guys on Idol 2.

They talked about Ken Starr and Clinton getting together for dinner today. Starr was definatley painted as the bad guy, while Clinton was praised.
Ok now for my superficial side. Why would they put such a heavy person on tv (Star)? Nothing against overweight people, of which I am one of them, but come on--everytime I see her I can't help but wonder how she got on tv.

Well, I liked Ruben Studdard.
Actually I'd love to see Ruben and Star Jones in a pie-eating contest.
To: Britton J Wingfield
what is your point?
mine is that a talk show host is possibly misrepresenting her statement in order to slam Republicans as racists...
I don't take that lightly.
