He was carrying a "sharpened wooden instrument" that would pass a metal detector and was capable of inflicting injury, tried to force his way into the cockpit of the plane... and this was "not an act of terrorism" -- ? Mr. Anderson, did the aliens forget to remove your anal probe, or is that your head up there?

"What? Now pencils are going to be banned on planes, too?"
they reported 'wooden stakes' could well be a 'aka' pencil. . .and if they give this enough hype; they just may come up with a pencil ban.
What goes around comes around - maybe we will be reduced to writing with chalk on board to take notes onboard. . .

Why, of course! That's the idea! Why hasn't anyone thought of that before?
We can take it one step further and ban people from the streets. That will prevent muggings and rapes. The possibilities are endless...

maybe we will be reduced to writing with chalk on board to take notes onboard. . . Out of the question. You can force chalk into a person's throat and choke him, you know.

Ugh, make it "down a person's throat."

Sgt.: Huh! 'Flu, eh? They should eat more fresh fruit. Ha. Right. Now, self-defence. Tonight I shall be carrying on from where we got to last week when I was showing you how to defend yourselves against anyone who attacks you with armed with a piece of fresh fruit.
(Grumbles from all)
Palin: Oh, you promised you wouldn't do fruit this week.
Sgt.: What do you mean?
Jones: We've done fruit the last nine weeks.
Sgt.: What's wrong with fruit? You think you know it all, eh?
Palin: Can't we do something else?
Idle (Welsh): Like someone who attacks you with a pointed stick?
Sgt.: Pointed stick? Oh, oh, oh. We want to learn how to defend ourselves against pointed sticks, do we? Getting all high and mighty, eh? Fresh fruit not good enough for you eh? Well I'll tell you something my lad. When you're walking home tonight and some great homicidal maniac comes after you with a bunch of loganberries, don't come crying to me! Now, the passion fruit. When your assailant lunges at you with a passion fruit...

Russel Little
Good ol' Russ, a member of the murderous SLA, stabbed a sheriff deputy in the throat with a pencil in a attempt to obtain the deputy's keys in a failed escape attempt. Russ did this in the presence of his lawyer, btw.

How about a little 5-pack of crayons for each passenger? (seriously -kind of- pens and pencils are at least as bad as nail files. A kid stabbed me in the back with a pen in Jr High, so I know from experience!)

Awfully thin on perpetrator description. Hmmmmm Good point. I'm disappointed in myself for not noticing. They're good at what they do.

Anderson said he did not believe it was a terrorist attack and did not identify the man.
"Although it looks premeditated, it doesn't look like it was an act of terrorism," Anderson said.
That's right out of the initial Shoebomber Reid script. Just change the names and it's practically identical.

...A kid stabbed me in the back with a pen in Jr High, so I know from experience!) Not only that, but you could get lead poisoning ;-).
When I was in school, I remember several cases where kids were worried about lead poisoning due to pencil injuries. Ignorance is not always bliss.
Of course, graphite poisoning is even worse. Graphite is used in *nuclear* reactors.
