That's not the point of the exercise. It's to get you to "tolerate" those who do, and more importantly, hate those who don't tolerate those who do.
Well, I'm doing my best to tolerate both the tolerant and the intolerant, I guess and whenever I find myself using the word "hate," I try to figure out what it is that's frightening me and then try to overcome that fear. I know it probably seems selfish on my part, but I just don't see any personal advantages to hate anymore. ;-)
There is nothing new under the sun.
As Pascal noted 400 years ago: Those who indulge in perversion tell those who are living normal lives that it is they who are deviating from what is natural. They think they are following a natural life themselves. They are like people on a ship who think it is those on shore who are moving away. Language is relative everywhere. But we need a fixed point for those who are moving aboard ship. But in morality, where are we going to find a harbor? (697-383)

But hetero IS the norm!
Most Americans of Traditional Christian or Jewish Faith are to busy trying to "save" the sinking ship.

Notice how they blend intersex physical disorders with the perversionists when homosexuality is ONLY 2% of their population? Their net is very large indeed, it gathers the genetically defect and the perverse in one grand political movement whether are or not.
Homosexuality has been shown to be caused by three things, Molestation, insufficient or absent relationship with one's father or severe teasing/rejection by one's peers during the formative years. (Usually two or all three causes are present)
The first cause results in damage to the human mind and spirit. This damage results in that person choosing to re-commit the behavior of the molestation in an attempt (sub concious) to identify with the attacker. (If he did it to me than maybe it's not my fault and it's just normal. If I can be just like him than I don't have to feel this shame of being violated.) This occurs in the female form of the damage also. My attacker likes girls so I'm supposed to like girls also. The basic human condition has been warped and twisted.
The second cause forces the person to seek to replace that missing father's love, trying to fill the hole that's left behind. But like the hole that is reserved in us for Jesus, only the authentic thing will fill the need, so the person continues to seek for that manly love that will fill his emotional need. He is damaged emotionally. (This shows up as promiscuity in girls deprived of their father's love also)
The third cause becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. (If everyone says I am than maybe I really am)
All of these result in a behavior that is sinful. But I've found that to break the habit of the sin you have to address the underlying need. Just as to break most addictions you have to meet the need that people are searching to fill (usually Jesus).
So, while the person practicing homosexual behavior is totally responsible for that sinful behavior, they are also damaged and broken people. Just calling them sinful without giving them a way out doesn't really help them much. It tends to push them into the 'God made me this way' talking point. Telling them they are sinning and giving them a way out is more effective. Both secular (NARTH) and religious (Exodus) therapies have been proven to be successful for those who want to be free.
Of course sometimes God does deliver someone totally when they get saved. At other times He chooses not to. I have known people in both conditions. I have also known people who were practicing Christians, on fire for the Lord, leading worship and raising Godly children, who never fixed the causes described above and as a result of that damage, fell into a habit of sin.
God gives us understanding into how He designed us so that we can heal each other. Just as a medical doctor has been given understanding of how to heal the body the mental and/or spiritual 'doctor' has a responsibility to heal the mind/spirit.
So, call it mental illness or call it habitual sin, the person practicing homosexual behavior needs help. They are twisted and damaged and must be restored.
I call homosexuality a disease because it is both curable and contagious. People are recruited into the practice of homosexual behavior (as shown by the 'gays' insistence that this practice be taught in the schools).

Book Review - Queering Elementary Education: Advancing the Dialogue about Sexualities in Schooling
Progressive Perspectives
Vol. 4, No. 1, John Dewey Project on Progressive Education, Spring 2002
College of Education and Social Services, University of Vermont
"Queering Elementary Education is unique because as it's title suggests it does not apologize for the stance that it takes, nor does it wallow in the problems of being homosexual in a heterosexist society. It is a book all educators should read whether they are elementary school teachers, administrators, or college professors. It challenges assumptions about how we view education and how we view caring for children. Edited by William J. Letts IV and James T. Sears, it offers many perspectives on the various aspects of elementary education and the myriad ways it is heterosexist.
In the first chapter James T. Sears proposes several ideas that appear throughout the book: speaking the unspoken by teaching about queer issues in elementary school, homosexuality as part of the human condition, and asserting that heterosexism and homophobia are acquired or learned beliefs. Bickmore asks, "why discuss sexuality in elementary school? and answers given the amount of (mis)information about gender relations and sexuality that flows freely these days in public spaces, media and peer groups, elementary educators could not prevent children from acquiring sexual information even if they wanted to do so"(p. 15). These concepts as well as others are discussed in various ways throughout the book..."

Queering Elementary Education - Book Review By Jack Nichols, GayToday.com
"Probably no other title in the pantheon of liberationist literature will evoke more controversy than Queering Elementary Education. If there was an unseemly uproar over Daddy's Roommate and Heather Has Two Mommies, just wait till the Religious Reich spies this august tome on some thoughtful teacher's shelf.
Its editors, both educators, have provided what some see as a companion volume to the award-winning film, It's Elementary. They take it for granted that children in the earliest grades have already been introduced "through schoolyard and media" to the concept of same sex love and affection, that most remain confused about it and that it is best to begin demystification processes early in life rather than allowing mistaken perceptions to take root.
It's Elementary's producer, Debra Chasnof, exults: "What a relief to finally have such a thoughtful collection of essays and research to back up what we've found in schools across the nation... an examination of the ways children's lives are hurt by homophobia and an inspiring array of strategies educators can use to turn this problem around."...
The American Pediatric Association recently called for the teaching of sexuality to begin by the middle of elementary school. Dr. Sears requests that Queering readers remember that "by the time boys and girls have become teenagers they have well-developed gender and sexual scripts: how boys and girls should behave, who makes up a family, and so on. These become our cultural straightjackets that cultivate the homophobia and sexism we see in the adult world."
"Rather than focussing on reducing such prejudices, shouldn't we consider how not to instill, foster, or intensify these prejudices in the first place?" he asks. Queering Elementary Education begins with "Foundational Issues" answering queries such as "Why Discuss Sexuality in Elementary School?".
The book's second section deals with children's sexual and social development, including supposed effects of being taught by openly gay teachers. Part three looks at possible curriculums, examining and critiquing the "heteronormative nature of elementary school science." Part four deals with family ties while the final section examines educators and their allies..."
This is a little long but worth the read, summarizing a lot of what we've seen lately. This is yet a continuing reminder that homeschooling our kids could be the last hope for the next generation.
