Letter: Republicans Abroad in Israel to President Bush against Roadmap
27 May 2003
The Honorable George Bush President of the United States of America The White House Washington DC
Dear Mr. President,
We, the Republicans Abroad - Israel, would like to applaud your leadership in the global war against terror.
By removing the Taliban from power in Afghanistan, and eliminating the evil regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraq, your administration has made the world a safer place for democracy and freedom. Under your stewardship, America has once again demonstrated that it is a benevolent superpower, one which uses force not to impose tyranny on others, but rather to liberate them from it.
As such, we are especially perplexed by your decision to press for the implementation of the Middle East "Road Map", which is slated to lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.
Since September 2000, the Palestinian Authority has engaged in a campaign of terror against Israel, and it is inconceivable that they should now be rewarded with statehood for their mindless acts of violence.
Moreover, as a result of various Palestinian attacks, more than a dozen American citizens have been killed during this period. Justice demands that the Palestinian Authority turn over those responsible for these acts to the United States, something they have thus far failed to do.
We believe that pressuring Israel to negotiate with terrorists at the same time that America is waging war on terror is both morally untenable and intellectually inconsistent. It blurs the clarity of vision which you have repeatedly enunciated since the September 11 terror attacks in New York and Washington, and sends the wrong message to terrorists around the world, namely, that violence can and does pay.
Mr. President, as loyal members of the Republican Party, we would also urge you to consider the political consequences which pursuit of the "Road Map" will likely entail.
Pressing ahead with this plan will only serve to alienate American Jews and the Christian right, many of whom view the "Road Map" as an act of defiance against the Divine promise to bestow the Land of Israel to the people of Israel.
Indeed, we are aware of increasing numbers of American citizens - both here in Israel and in the United States - who are now considering abandoning the Republican party as a result of your Administration's pursuit of the "Road Map".
In light of the above, we would therefore urge you to reconsider, and to cease pressuring Israel to implement the "Road Map".
For, as Vice President Richard Cheney said following the recent terrorist attack in Riyadh, "The only way to deal with this threat ultimately is to destroy it. There's no treaty that can solve this problem. There's no peace agreement, no policy of containment or deterrence that works to deal with this threat. We have to go find the terrorists".
Therefore, we believe the United States should stand behind Israel during these difficult times, and give it the full backing and support it requires to defeat the ongoing Palestinian terrorist threat which it faces on a daily basis.

What does it say about the nations that gather against Jerusalem ? What happens to them ?
I don't know whether it is politically advantageous or not because the game hasn't played out. What we should keep in mind is that the majority of US voters rarely vote the same single issue. He has an excellent chance of finding that issue, security, if he presents moral clarity. If he obfuscates or lies, we could be in for a rude shock. It is about forging alliances among disparate groups to reach a majority. If those voters who would otherwise vote for Bush stay home, or worse vote for a Democrat, certain states are in play. Opinion polls, as his father can testify, do not reelect presidents.
Maybe the President is interested in getting the Un out of the picture. Seems like they're profitting from this situation the way they did in iraq.
The Book of the Prophet Isaiah 54 The LORD's Everlasting Love for Israel
1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, Gal. 4.27 saith the LORD.
2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;
3 for thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.
4 ¶ Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.
5 For thy Maker is thine husband; The LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called
. 6 For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.
7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.
8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.
9 ¶ For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; Gen. 9.8-17 so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.
10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
11 ¶ O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.
12 And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. Rev. 21.18-21
13 And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; Joh. 6.45 and great shall be the peace of thy children.
14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.
15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.
16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.
17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
Not necessarily. Menachin Begin is a good example.

Actually, you and I aren't that far apart. I want to hear what Mazen has to say... you want to make a parking lot out of the Middle East. See... we so close to an agreement.
Traitor ?
It's just a day's difference, between 10 Sep 2001 and 11 Sep 2001.
How little you know and how wrongly you judge.
President Ronald Reagan said, "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter." What is the distinction? An American military instructor answered this question rhetorically: "Victory or defeat! If a revolutionary succeeds in overthrowing the established government, he is a, patriot, a, visionary, a, hero. If he fails, he is a, criminal, an anarchist, and/or a terrorist." Given this definition, Begin is a patriot, Arafat, a terrorist.
With all due respect, I must wholheartedly disagree. If (as I expect) the Palestinians never live up to their responsibilities under the Roadmap and continue to commit terrorist acts, President Bush will be in the position to take action against them or else give Israel the green light to do so. He can then say, as President Clinton did, that he did everything to give the peace process a chance and it dind't work. He can blame the Palestinian leadership and terorrists. What separates him from Bill Clinton is that George W. Bush has a consistent, morally based foreign poilicy. His saying it will mean a lot more than Bill Clinton saying it or Dennis Ross saying it.
Also, for President Bush this really is a win-win situation. The liberal elements in the press like to paint this as risky so they can criticize later if things go wrong. For President Bush, whether the Roadmap succeeds or fails, he will successfully capture a lot of Jewish votes from the Democrats for his support of Israel and his sincere efforts to promote peace. The last Republican to capture the Jewish vote was Ronald Reagan. Secondly, if this fails, he will have justification for more tough actions in the middle east and for pursuing the war on terror. He will be able to correctly portray Palestinian terrorism as an attack on peace and freedom rather than some kind of justified revolt against an occupier.
If, by some miracle, the Roadmap succeeds, President Bush is a great peacemaker. It would pretty much assure his reelection.
How is this political suicide?
