[history]
A Catholic religious education coordinator was denied an award from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis Wednesday evening because she is a lesbian, prompting a protest at the dinner honoring the other 17 recipients.
About 200 members of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church demonstrated Wednesday night in support of Kathy Itzin, the church's religious education coordinator. Itzin, a member of St. Joan's, was to be one of 18 archdiocesan workers honored for their work in teaching young people about the faith. She is in a relationship with a partner, and they have four children, ages 10 to 16.

This is the same claim that the LDS makeNot at all.
Joseph Smith claimed to have special knowledge directly from God to interpret all aspects of the Scriptures and to even introduce new Scriptures given by an supposed angel.
The Catholic Church's claim is quite different: that Christ gave the Apostles authority to teach - which is attested by Scripture. The Apostles were also able to ordain successors - this is also attested by Scripture. The Apostles handed down traditions to those they appointed - which is also attested by Scripture. The Pope and other Catholic bishops can show that they were ordained by bishops who were in turn ordained by other bishops in an unbroken line back to the time of the original Apostles. Therefore, whenever the bishops teach together on a point of doctrine, they teach authoritatively.

Do you mean "communion" in the sense of "the communion of the saints" that we were discussing earlier, or do you mean "communion" in the sense of "partaking in the Eucharist (Lord's Supper)"? The latter. More comments on your post when I feel less guilty about not working. ;-)

so, if NEW teachings appear, that were NOT taught in the past, to WHAT do we attribute them?

This mode of communication is extremely good at starting fights and that is not my intention. A hearty AMEN to that, Brother!
This medium of communication is worse than CB radios and phones.
With those, we lost the visual input of body language and facial expression to convey meaning, and on this silly computer we've lost the tone, volume and pacing of our speech patterns.
It's no wonder that we can get into a tiff or have our nose seemingly tweaked by others when they no more intended that than anything.
I hope that when I add color or bold to my text, that my meaning will become clearer, but, alas, sometimes I just make it worse!!

Oh that is so true. I've been teaching my kids about non verbal communication since they learned verbal. I was amazed to learn and realize the truth that communication is 80 percent non-verbal. We don't even get tone here though, let alone body language. Just words and they always come off as harsh, arrogant and accusing when we don't intend it. emoticons help only a very very tiny bit.

so, if NEW teachings appear, that were NOT taught in the past, to WHAT do we attribute them? There are no new teachings, just clarifications of old ones.
For example, when controversy arose in the Church regarding whether the observance of the Torah was binding on Gentile converts it was a matter of debate among the Apostles - who then settled it definitively.
Another salient example is the Canon of the New Testament itself. There was no definitive list of which books made up the NT until the Church ruled on it early in the300s - almost 250 years after Paul wrote! This was not a matter of new teaching - it was amatter of defining the traditional canon of Scripture.

Regarding prayer......
Romans 8:27
And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
James 5:16
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Vatican Intervenes in Minneapolis Catholic "Gay Pride" Parish
MINNEAPOLIS, October 28, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A Catholic parish in Minneapolis Minnesota has been ordered by the Archdiocese and the Vatican to remove Gay Pride material from their website and cease inviting non-Catholic speakers to Masses.
The pastor, Rev. George Wertin, said that the Gay Pride pages would be removed from the parish's website but although the references to the parade have been removed, the parish's 'Gay and Lesbian' ministry page remains active.
For many years, local Catholics have complained to the diocesan officials about the activities at St. Joan of Arc but it was complaints sent to Rome that prompted the action by the diocese. Two issues in particular were mentioned, an article on "inclusivity of gay and lesbian parishioners" and an article about parish participation in the local Gay Pride parade.
Direct intervention in the activities of individual parishes by Vatican officials is extremely rare in the Catholic Church. The Archdiocese's statement said, "The Archdiocese welcomes gay and lesbian worshippers who are in full communion with the moral teachings of the Church as they apply to all Catholics. It does not, however, endorse the promotion of sexual relations among unmarried persons."
Archbishop Flynn has come under criticism for his handling of a Catholic organization based in his diocese, Catholic Parents Online, who have for years petitioned him to respond to theological dissent in his diocese. Recently, Flynn responded angrily to letters from the group saying, "From now on I am sending to you all the letters which assault my office because of communications which you have made."
In 2003, the Catholic Parents wrote to Archbishop Flynn warning him that he was about to present an award to homosexual activist Kathy Itzin employed by St. Joan of Arc as Religious Education Director. Itzin runs an organization called "Rainbow Families" devoted to legitimizing homosexuality and which sends speakers into schools to promote the homosexual lifestyle. Although the award and invitation were rescinded, Itzin is still employed by the parish as Religious Education Director.
The St. Joan website features a page for their "Catholic Pastoral Committee on Sexual Minorities," a site which promotes the homosexual lifestyle and anti-Catholic agenda. The page includes "A Resource Guide to Coming Out" in three languages.

You can't assume that you're going to get a Catholic education in Catholic schools, unfortunately.

St JoA must really be a nuthouse if even Harry Flynn has to shut them up.
I've heard about them before; evidently (judging from the membership numbers posted) they attract every fruit and nut in the entire Twin Cities.
That's OK in a way--we know where they are; and they are NOT at the Church of St. Agnes in St. Paul.

You are so right to remind us of the 'crosses' we are asked to bear. It is amazing to me that so many people equate sexual satisfaction with human fulfillment. We live in times as pagan as any, but most people in power think we are 'enlightened.'
