I should say so! Is this a current story in the US? Is anyone talking about it?

This is the first that I've heard of it. I would find it quite disturbing if this turned out to be true.

I equate death camps with concentration camps, Nazis and gas chambers...an outrageous term to use.If it was meant to inflame,it worked. I'd like to flog the writer.

Ah, yes. The Americans as Nazis. Or at least the Bush Administration. Reality be d*mned, once some people's minds are made up, everything is argued from that point of view. Facts only get in the way.

But the scourge that was International Socialism, the greatest critics of National Socialism, has been largely in retreat around the world, EXCEPT in Castro's Cuba, in Kim Jong-Il's North Korea, and the People's Republic of China. One might arguably state that International Communism began crumbling when they faced the implacable Islamic militants, a rag-tag army on a mission. Fresh from that victory, the militants thought they could tackle the Great Satan, the United States. And at first, their strategy seemed to be working. But then came 9/11, a series of acts so egregious, so reckless, so disrespectful, that the sleeping giant stirred into action. Advice, freely given to all who will listen. Don't p*ss off the Americans.

The Islamic militants found out they had just stepped into a meat grinder. The Americans were highly selective in their targets, using almost surgical skill in taking out specific human elements. The opposition was so shattered that they simply folded, fleeing for their lives. But one by one, these cringing rodents are being flushed out, by patient applicantion of human intelligence and artful dialogue. Not negotiation, only a simple statement, come out and surrender. Or suffer consequences, which may or may not involve gunfire exchange.

Justice with mercy, or justice without mercy. Either way, the wages are the same.

(A duplicate thread for this article was deleted as I was composing this reply to its poster, "RepublicanRightOrWrong." I could address it to you, though, as well.)

I'd like to flog the writer.

Why, what's upsetting you? That some observers abroad are, once again, merely calling U.S. government hypocrisy by its right name?

That a government devoting prime real estate in the heart of its capital city to a museum decrying a Bergen-Belsen can, nonetheless, put up its own similar facility at Guantanamo Bay? (Note that the article refers to "death camp," not "extermination facility." There's a difference.)

Or is it, I would sincerely hope, that you'd retch as I would at contemplating both of the above?

Or is it, as I fear, applying to neither of the above? Will any effort used to prosecute this conflict or suppress dissent, no matter how much it tramples on individual rights of due process (which are universal, not just American), be cheered by you?

Every empire "needs" some place to slay those it wants removed with impunity, and without strictures of law. This happened with spiritual empires, such as Torquemada's having his way in Spain against all the Moors, then all the Jews, then all the disobedient Catholics, and if some odd "witches" were put through the wringer or the rack, who'd notice? And it's happened with temporal empires of all sorts that want to preserve public opinion at home.

And now it's "our" turn, apparently, to practice such savagery with impunity. And I doubt that you're surprised.

Humanity has no interest in keeping "hard core terrorists" incarcerated for long terms.

Assuming that one can trust government's honesty and infallibility in finding if someone is a terrorist. The judicial process with lawyers, juries, appeals, etc has a number of functions, including one to reduce the erors.

I must have skipped history class that day when they were telling us about how the Jews had declared Jihad against the Germans and attacked them on a regular basis for 50 years and even highjacked German airliners and crashed them into office buidings in a coordinated attack killing 3000 innocent Germanss at one time.

let's just make sure we come up with an execution method that doesn't harm their organs so they can used in transplants. Hmmm, death by freezing? That would sure protect the organs.

It's a huge tub grinder, appropriately named "HOGZILLA".

Yes, that would be an interesting way to do them in, but wouldn't it be cheaper just to line them up against a wall, and shoot them?

50 lb stand-up gear, loaded with 80 lb test mono, 12' 300 lb braided cable, 4' 750 lb bite leader, 14/0 hook, butterflied 10 lb tuna, 20 gal blood and ground fish chum. ;-)

CW Manufacturing's HogZilla grinders are monster tub grinders for waste reduction, recycling, land clearing, construction demolition, or any other tough grinding application.

"Will any effort used to prosecute this conflict or suppress dissent, no matter how much it tramples on individual rights of due process (which are universal, not just American), be cheered by you?" So now terrorists captured planning the deaths of Americans should be treated to a court trial and all of the appeals courtesy of the American taxpayer? That's precisely what you're suggesting. I can see it now -- lawyers rushing to the battlefield to ask wounded Taliban insurgents how they'd like to be represented at their trial, screaming out Miranda rights in a hail of bullets. ~rolling my eyes~ Justics and sanity seem to have escaped us...
