COMPOSER Martin Isherwood says Eurovision Song Contest entrants Jemini were unlucky to score a duck in Latvia.

The Liverpudlian duo became the first Brits ever to register the dreaded 'nul points' but Mr Isherwood from Salford says the voting was political and a backlash against the war in Iraq.

The 38-year-old said: "Jemini did really, really well under the circumstances. It was a really lovely performance and it was very well received, one of the best received in the arena. Last night and this morning will be remembered as the Gulf War backlash."

So the nations of old Europe strike back at their enemy with the only weapon in their arsenal: the Eurovision song contest! Tyrants everywhere must be quaking in their boots at the thought of crossing such a stern and formidable force.

Probably true. On the other hand, the British duo was pretty weak, even by Eurovision standards. Turkish gyrations aside, I thought the Belgians were OK. It should be remembered too, that the balloting is done by audience call-in so Turkey, with their emigrant population spread over most of Europe, always fares well.

LOL yes, it would have been nice if they'd actually sung in tune.

I do think there was some politicking going on, though to be honest, no-one over here takes Eurovision seriously, anyway! Our track record in music stands on its own merits, IMHO.
