I suspect the SSR will find its niche among the likes of the Ford Thunderbird, together with other vehicles that failed to elicit enthusiasm from the buying public.

If Chevrolet had stuck with their original plan of installing the LS1/M6 from the Camaro/Corvette they would have a player. As it sits, its mediocre power, and high price tag, equate to a vehicle that shall never inhabit my driveway.

Lately Chevrolet has displayed a strong desire to produce vehicles with the SS moniker the buying public doesn't want. Their newly introduced Silverado SS appears doomed to a life of looking pretty sitting on dealer's lots. Then there is that wonderous creation called the Monte Carlo SS... a slap in the face to all the many fine vehicles before it carrying the SS name.

I own two of their earlier SS offerings, and both are fine vehicles. A 1992 454SS truck, and a 1997 Camaro SS. Either one provides horsepower beyond any of Chevrolet's current offerings, Corvette excluded for obvious reasons.

Too bad I dislike Fords so much, their Cobra, Lightning, and Harley-Davidson models provide all the HP and refinement one would expect from a performance oriented vehicle. Chevrolet is asleep while their performance customer base is bailing.
