The really annoying thingie, is that the state tolerates politicians that are way past their prime. Thus although my impression is that Hollings brain isn't functioning very well, SC doesn't seem to mind minor matters like that. Maybe it is some residual bring home the pork thingie.

Term Limits. 2 terms in the senate. 6 terms in the house.
Let's make it so.

As I recall, he just became SC's senior Senator, after Strom retired.

Of course he's going to run again. Imagine being the junior senator from your state for 36 freakin' years. Did anyone think he was going to leave so soon, even if he did become the senior senator at the age of 80?
To: noutopia
Seems like Senators live far past the average life expectancy. I guess wielding power is good for your health.

Right now, I'm scheduled to (run). But my wife I've got some personal considerations. What a wimp. Make up your damn mind! Tell her to get back in the kitchen and make you some grits!
I think South Carolinians are ready to reject Foghorn. I was a little worried that they'd pull a killer replacement candidate out their butts and sneak away the seat before our very eyes.
Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Some of the issues he said he worries about:
The rising federal deficit.
stop spending
Tax cuts that he says haven't stimulated the economy.
Tax cuts prevented a deep recession. Take a look at where we were headed by summer of 2002 when I lost my job. (Got one by fall).
What he calls inadequate funds to make the nation's 361 sea and river ports safer from terrorism.
If he wannts to expand the Patriot Act he should propose that in the Senate.

What is it with these fossils? Why do they fight so hard to keep from having to go out and live in the world they helped create?
That goes for Republicans as well as RATS.

Uh... Hollings didn't quite say he's running, he said more that he was thinking about and "we'll see what hapens" doesn't sound like he's reved up to get in there.

I must submit that Byrd is a simpering wimp, and Hollings is a wimpering simp.
They make a great pair.
