The 33-year-old boyfriend of former Time magazine reporter Julie Grace was charged late Thursday with killing her during an argument this week in her North Side apartment.
George Thompson, of the 16700 block of South Elm Street in South Holland, was charged with first-degree murder for allegedly punching and pushing Grace, causing her to fall and strike her head against a bedroom dresser, said Chicago police spokeswoman Alice Casanova.

A tragedy, but that doesn't sound like first degree murder.
I didn't want to register, so I didn't read the full article.
I wonder if he had a history of physical abuse or something like that, which might justify the charge.
I have never heard of that, but I tried it and it worked!
Okay, this reply is 2-years later, but I just found this web site. FYI - I am a friend of the murder victim Julie Grace. They CAN prove first-degree murder. Not only did George Thompson beat her and cause her to hit her head against the dresser - he left her lying on her bedroom floor for three days and only called the paramedics after she was dead. He has a history of domestic abuse and if beating someone and leaving them to die isn't first-degree murder, I don't know what is.

We get a lot of newbie posters claiming to be friends and relatives of players in the articles.
What do you mean they "CAN prove first degree murder"? So it's been two years since it happened and the only reason you posted was to brag about some inconsistancies in the posts.
If you really are a friend of the deceased, why didn't you post additional information about a trial and conviction if any?
It seems like if you were a friend, you would know about more recent facts than they "CAN" prove something. Did they or didn't they?
I really don't care if you believe I'm her friend or not. It hasn't gone to trial yet and I'm only posting now because I was trying to see if anything else about Julie has been in the media. www.juliergrace.com. That's the web site I created for her and her family. BRAGGING? I'm not bragging about anything. I just want people to know what a bastard Thompson is.

A case two years old and it has yet to come to trial? You have my deepest sympathy.
If you look at most murder cases, that's a standard. The courts are filled with people like George Thompson and it is pretty normal for a trial date to be set, postponed, then reset because of new evidence, endictments being re-written, witnesses are unavailable, etc.

Hitting the [POST] button once usually suffices. No need to hit it five times as in your first post nor twice as in the post to which I'm replying.
This didn't happen in Chicago.
