NASA is said to be bracing. What could possibly come out now that hasn't already been thought about, suspected, said, or argued for in regard to NASA over the last 3 1/2 months?

I have no idea. Maybe Dreher needed a Drudge siren?
Maybe I should have put one on it and plastered this into breaking news?
About the only thing that comes to my mind that could be severely damaging is if it was proven that NASA knew the men and women were doomed and did nothing to tell them, and had been lying to us all along when they claimed that they did not know the shuttle was going to break apart.

My question was rhetorical, not directed at you personally. I agree that if the scenario you outline could be proven, it would be very bad indeed. However, I know a lot of these guys and there's just no way that could be true. A more likely scenario is that they refused to face reality and brought back Columbia on a wish and a prayer.

Agreed.
Not informing the crew as to the condition of their craft would have been inexcusable. Or was it possible they were informed and that the decision was made to spike the release to the public at the request of the crew? I guess we might find out?

I hear that. I was not meaning to imply malfeasance- more I was stating how a potential story might play out in the media.
I am much less cynical. I worked in a hazardous industry, and while I know that mistakes can be made and covered up, I also know that overwhelmingly those who work in those industries tend to take safety and tragedy avoidance very, very seriously.
I consider NASA to have a high percentage of heros.

I couldn't bring myself to use that as the title. I know that means I didn't use the same words as Dreher, but it seemed to me to be a bad pun at a bad place.

there needs to be head-rolling at nasa. long overdue.
if a corporation conducted business in the manner of nasa since the 1980s, they'd not be in business.

When I posted that around the time of the Columbia going down, I got a week ban by the FR Admin tyrants. No warning, no notification. Just punishment. Nice.
