Clay Aiken(l) was still smiling after Ruben Studdard was named the "Idol" winner.

'AMERICAN IDOL 2" runner-up Clay Aiken already knew he had lost to Ruben Studdard at least five minutes before the decision was announced, show judge Simon Cowell said yesterday.

Clay found out by peeking over show host Ryan Seacrest's shoulder

Thanx for the ping TS...I saw Clay peeking over Ryan's shoulder on the show also...but when Ruben was announced, Clay's body tensed and sprang forward like he thought I may win. What Clay did then changed my feeling like he was a Southern gentleman like Ruben, was after Roo did win, Clay had to make two digs:

1.You stole my title

2.When they went backstage and Roo was being interviewed, Clay pops up on the dias and said well I feel like I won also and you'll share it with my RIGHT Ruben? Smiling like a catty female.

Hey I needed to bring up the digs on Ruben sweating again.

1.Louis Armstrong always did and he wiped his head with a hankie ;)

2. Jim Carey (thin) was on Conan last night and was pouring sweat! He kept wiping himself and said he is just a terrible sweater. So...

When can you wear a 'sweater' and when does someone become a sweater...perspiration for thought ;)

I haven't found this show too appealing. Whatever happened to the first 'winner'? Haven't seen him/her become a star yet.

Well...guess you aren't looking to carefully (which may be a good thing...I am not too impressed). She just had her album go platinum with 1.3 million sold. I would imagine that is kinda being a star.

Well I guess we shall see. 1.3 million is sales is pretty good, but considering all the hype and attention the show has gotten you would expect fairly high record sales. We will see if she can spin off a few more hits from the album and actually put together a career. I think I have actually heard her first single now that I think about it, and it was so so.

With the enormous media machine that's been pushing it, 1.3 million isn't suprising. She'll be dust this time next year.

Josh knew that Clay lost to Ruben weeks before the "final vote". Kimberly knew days before the "vote". Simon wanted "image over talent" so he duped the entire nation of TV viewers. Maybe they'll get caught. WWho knows?

You heard wrong. At the end of the show, just before the "results" were revealed, Simon said "America got it right. It's image over talent." The only question remaining is "Who's image?"

I didn't see Clay peeking, but either way he probably already knew Ruben had been "picked" to win.

Catty remarks? Yes, but true, Clay's voice was better and he should have won.

I had never seen the show before Wed. night's. I will give it credit for one thing ... at least everybody was singing real songs and not doing rap.

Personally, I thought Clay had real stage-presence, charisma, and style. He seemed like someone who really might make a career out of this ... I think he might be around even after the hype is over. I was impressed that he was gracious while "losing".

Reuben seemed like a very fine fellow and a good singer, but I don't think he will be able to carry this into a long term career. Also, I thought the young lady who came in third was a better, more polished singer than Reuben. Time will tell which one uses his/her 15 minutes of fame to launch a real career.

By the way, the show was way too long and the duration of commercial breaks was unbelievable ... 10 to 12 commercials sometimes. Plenty of time to go into the kitchen and make a 'reuben' sandwich!
