Doesn't talk about the higher cancer rates among the Atkins diet. When you give up all the anti-oxidents in fruit and vegetables...

I like the nickname you assigned him, but allow mw to make one correction to your title. It's Rooooooooooooben, not Ruben.

I read someplace that Atkins paid for these "studies"

If you follow all of Atkins, you'll find he strongly recommends suppliments to take care of antioxidants, etc that may be lost.

The Atkins diet only restricts fruits and vegetables for the first couple of weeks. Thereafter, fruits and veggies are worked into the diet, so the risk of cancer or other illnesses is probably close to nil.

As someone who used this diet to drop 10 pounds for a vacation, I can personally attest to the fact that it's a very difficult diet to maintain. Eating ONLY meat, day in an day out, contrary to my initial elation, is a PAIN IN THE ASS! They need to market that fact to the public.

The Atkins Diet certainly helps one lose weight, but so does using ephedra, smoking crack, or spending 2 years in a P.O.W. camp.

who says you give up fruits and vegetables? i eat plenty of spinach, chile peppers (of course), pimentos, radishes, garlic, califlower, strawberries, olives, celery, daikon, lettuce, cabbage, raspberries, etc.

I always knew Romulans were not as logical as their Vulcan cousins, and your statement confirms this.

Eating ONLY meat, day in an day out, contrary to my initial elation, is a PAIN IN THE ASS! Yes it is. That is why you are supposed to have two cups of salad greens and one cup of other vegetables daily.
You went meat only? Whew! You are a better man then I am Gunga Din

Eating "only" meat?
You did it wrong, chum. Read the book.
To: chilepepper
I'm not sure I'd want to be downwind of you, given some of the stuff you eat. ;)

Which Atkins diet? He changed it several times to make it more marketable--which was the whole point of it.
Of course you are going to lose weight with it--your body is forced to digest itself.

"...you are supposed to have two cups of salad greens and one cup of other vegetables daily."
That's for the induction phase, which is just the first couple of weeks. After that you can load up on the veggies. My wife and I regularly feast on steamed broccoli with homemade Hollandaise slathered all over it-- yum.
Done right, the 'diet' institutes wonderful long-term eating habits. You won't be hungry, you won't feel sleepy after lunch, and you'll look forward to new ways to avoid carbs and maximize nutrition.

You ate only meat? You weren't doing Atkins; you were doing your own thing.
To: Godzilla
strongly recommends suppliments to take care of antioxidants, etc that may be lost Proof that's not the way someone is supposed to be eating if you have to take artificial supplements.
To: Thane_Banquo
Just curious, why do you think that people who eat a low carb diet don't eat fruits and veggies. I'll have you know I ingest more veggies eating a low carb diet then I ever did during the times I ate low fat/calorie to try losing weight.

It also must be inconvenient. Who has the time to cook all that meat when you can just grab some fruit or a granola bar or some yogurt? Nothing against the Atkins diet, but I'm doing fine on my own, thank you...
