Clinton Applauds Bush

Joel C. Rosenberg, national correspondent for WORLD magazine (www.worldmag.com) reports the following:

Bill Clinton stunned a Syracuse University audience on Mother's Day.

The controversial former president delivered a commencement address devoid of controversy or partisan politics. And at a time other Democrats - including his own wife - are attacking the White House on everything from tax cuts to judicial nominees, Clinton actually praised his Republican successor.

"I applaud President Bush for proposing to triple funding from America to combat HIV and AIDS, including providing greater treatment to those with the disease in fourteen poor nations in Africa and the Caribbean," Clinton told the surprised crowd of 20,000 students, parents faculty and community members.

He even urged people to "go out and tell people you know that we should continue to build on President Bush's AIDS initiative," and made it clear he think the President's approach is "a big first step" in defeating the global disease, now affecting some 42 million people.

Why such an apolitical speech from such a political ex-president?

Politics, perhaps. Located in the heart of upstate New York, Syracuse is a Republican stronghold, where the current President is wildly popular and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is not.

Statewide, only 47 percent of New Yorkers say Hillary is doing an excellent or good job, according to a Zogby poll in April.

A full 51 percent say she's doing a fair or poor job.

Upstate - in places like Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany - a whopping 60 percent say Hillary is doing a lousy job.

Funding AIDS is a liberal cause celebre'. I think GW did it solely as a political move. Just like announcing research for hydrogen cars during the SOTU speech. Helps bring over wavering voters in '04.

You don't think Clinton agrees with money sent to a foreign country to fight AIDS? Not only that, but the actual bill sends money to N. Korea, and other places that deserve condemnation, not taxpayers money.

Count me in for the 61% who say she's doing a lousy job. She's done NADA for any of us here.

Anywhere in NYS where you have college towns, you'll probably have a liberal viewpoint of politics. Happens every time.

"I resent that comment. I am gay and do not have AIDS. Have you ever heard of Log Cabin Republicans? Do you read?

What a hoot you are! Look at how defensive you are when quizzed on YOUR sexual orientation! Yet you defend them and want to normalize this emotional disease. Indeed I do read which is why I questioned your sexual orientation and now sanity.

Oops I read your inane reply too quickly. MOST people are ashamed of being labeled "gay". Here you grovel in it. Yuck! Truly I don't want to know what you do sexually to your lovers. It would sicken me.

Yeah, I've hear of the Log Cabin Republicans. I don't acknowledge such as immoral bunch as being conservative or Republican. Simply misguided wanna be Republcans.

No, certainly not "homophobic" either. I'm not afraid of "gay" people or is that extremely touchy and emotional people - anything but "gay". I simply reconginze being "gay" as an emotional disorder acted out sexually. NO ONE is born that way. I just wish you'd come to terms with your emotional problems whether it be a former molestation or male identity crisis, and live a normal, happy life. What you're living is ANYTHING BUT THAT.

You as a homsexual will NEVER have my respect or approval. NEVER! Have a hissy fit over that. It's a perverted, disgusting lifestyle.

"My sanity? Just when did you "decide" that you were heterosexual. Tell me...waiting with baited breath. I always knew; it wasn't a choice. "

God made the decision on my sexuality as well as yours. You've elected to defy Him. Perfection is not mistaken or confused. It is YOU who suffers from confusion. Was it through molestation? Or perhaps lack of a father figure to identify with or bond? What role do you play in your perverted relationship? The feminine cow or the "manish" bull?

"Defensive, you bet. Who wouldn't be with people spouting off about gays with AIDS..as if everyone who is gay has AIDS. Have you look at the statistics WORLWIDE? Approx. 50% are women."

Defensive? More like angry at alck of acceptance and approval of an immoral lifestyle choice. Aids is primarily in the gay community. Men lead the pack with it. Why do you think they need to drum up misguided sympathy on the "gay mens health crisis"? I look at the stats for the U.S.. I know, you avoid that because it validates what I say and it is preferable to muddy the water. BTW, gay men rarely live past 40, so live it up! It doesn't matter to me. Your choice is made however you, and only YOU can turn your life around.

If you are disgusted with your life, I highly recommend Exodus International. They have turned MANY a gay male and female around to a happy normal lifestyle. Beyond this reply I have nothing further to say to you, so flame away. I can "tolerate" that but amongst the silenet majority, you will NEVER find acceptance or respect for your current lifestyle choice - being "gay" (i.e. miserable).

I am gay and do not have AIDS.

Are you certain? I'd keep an eye out for symptoms. The first one is often a throbbing pain in the rectum.
