(1010 WINS) (NEW YORK) It appears the New York City budget crunch has police writing tickets for things that are moving and not moving. A Bronx man tells the Daily News he was given a ticket for sitting on a milk crate outside the hair salon where he works on the Grand Councourse.
The ticket says "unauthorized use of a milk crate." The fine was not immediately known. But 19-year-old Jesse Taveras told the News he was flabbergasted when the police officer handed him the ticket Sunday afternoon. Taveras says the cop told him to "Blame Bloomberg." Owning a stolen milk crate can cost a 100 dollar fine. But those at the hair salon say the milk crate has been there for years.
A few days ago the Police Benevolent Association charged that street cops were being pressured to meet a quota in writing tickets to collect money for the city. The Bloomberg administration strongly denied those claims.

Well there goes my morning!
I have two milk crates in my basement storing various things and now I'm a law breaker. I don't live in New York but who knows,it may be illegal in Mass. also.
Bloomberg is an idiot and I hope New Yorkers dump him the next time around. Let him go back to his billions and leave the little guys alone.

The key question, of course, is 'how can one be fined for
owning a
stolen milk crate?'
If one has stolen a milk crate, one is not the owner but merely the possessor, and such a fine would be false-to-fact. Contrarily, if one owns a milk crate and it is subsequently stolen, such a fine would constitute punishing the victim.
Ah, well, I suppose that all things are possible with Josef Vissarionovich Bloomberg. And/or illiterate 'reporters'.

Oops, sorry.
Bloomberg probably threatened 1010 WINS with arrest if they didn't change the title on their version of this story.

The details in this story are sparse to say the least. I'll withhold judgement until more is provided.
