The sheriff was from Broward county, which alongside Miami-Dade, is easily the most rabidly anti-gun area of the sunshine state. I think this wannabe populist politician aspires to be mayor of Oakland, CA or some other shining edifice of civilization when he grows up.

Shooter, the interview in post #54 is required reading for anyone who complains that the NRA is worthless. No other group has the gravitas to get on the air and refute this blatant propaganda piece, and Wayne really ripped CNN a new one.

There are numerous "gun groups" with voices equal to Wayne and with equal or better "PC WORD ALERT" gravitas. I don't complain the nra is worthless, see post 75. I do think the nra has allowed appeasers and compromisers to lead them down the primrose path. For these reasons the nra has failed to uphold the second amendment to the degree Gun Owners of America, JPFO, and SAF, have. I no longer belong to the NRA, I have tried 4 times and each time I am surprised at the directions they take and the legislation they think is good, and I think is bad for the country and bad for the second amendment. JMHO.

What people still don't seem to get is it depends on the vote we have in the Congress and the Senate. No gun group makes laws or stops laws. The groups can only encourage lawmakers to do our bidding. It stops there.
We are finally getting the votes we need. The Assault Weapons Bill will prove whether or not we can succeed.
What has changed is, before, Wayne LaPierre might have appealed to CNN "good side" if we didn't have the power to change people's minds. He might have asked politely to have a rebuttal.
Today, we have created a lot of knowledgeable people who know exactly what the media and the libs are doing. Now the ball is in our court. We can lash out at the liars without getting into the same media disaster of repeating the democrat coin phrase "jackbooted thugs".

This has been a public relations shining moment for the NRA, the gun groups and gunowners. They are the victims, handled it with flair and they didn't result to cheap shots. No one can dispute they are on the right side.

The only problem is where is this going to be played. I don't think cities such as Chicago and New York will pay attention. We'll see. We should still call for the firing of the reporter and his bosses.
