Halal McNuggets a Hit in Detroit
Sales are so good, McDonalds expands the idea to another area restaurant
Last September, a McDonalds restaurant in Dearborn, Michigan began offering a halal version of its chicken nuggets, in response to requests from area customers. In the past 11 months, sales have been so good that they have expanded the idea to a second Dearborn location.
At the Michigan Avenue restaurant (14860 Michigan Avenue), McNugget sales are about double the restaurant chain's average, and 65 percent of the orders are for the halal version. The halal product has been so successful that McDonalds expanded the offering to its location at 13158 Ford Road.

Unless I was hallucinating, the Mc Ds in Lihue, HI had rice in their Big Breakfast. Fried Spam too, I think, but I could be wrong about that. Every other restaurant had it though.

Ok, then what exactly is a "halal" nugget?

The Islamic version of Kosher.
All foods are considered Halal (permitted) except the following, which are haram (prohibited):
Swine/pork and its by-products
Animals improperly slaughtered or dead before slaughtering
Animals killed in the name of anyone other than ALLAH (God)
Alcohol and intoxicants
Carnivorous animals, birds of prey and land animals without external ears
Blood and blood by-products
Foods contaminated with any of the above products

what exactly is a "halal" nugget? The chicken would have been slaughtered in the proper way, and the nugget would have been fried in the proper oil. It's probably no worse than the usual factory McNugget.

Onion? Or is MacDonald's whoring for dollars now? This is no more whoring for dollars than it is for a restaurant in a Jewish area to sell a kosher menu. People want it, and it's legal. So, why not? In fact, the stuff is kosher as well; all it needs is a Rabbi's inspection and blessing.

... and land animals without external ears So if McDonald's can breed chickens with ears, that's halal? Come to think about it, sounds better than most of the crap they sell.

land animals without external ears How would they know if snake were substituted for chicken in the McNuggets? It's not like McNuggets actually taste like chicken anyway. Heck there could be "the other white meat" in them and you couldn't tell by taste or (mushy) consitancy. I'll bet they just use whatever white mystery meat is cheapest that week, don't you think?

The Islamic version of Kosher. That is interesting. I once hauled a load of swinging beef from Chicago to Los Angeles. It was supposedly Kosher.
I remember that after I picked up the load (which was right where everybody else (non Kosher) picked up theirs) I had to drive about 25 miles SW of Chicago and stop off at some Rabbis house. Then I had to wake him up and fuss around breaking ice out of his water hose. Then I had to spray the trailer with water while he read something out of a book.
They may very well have handled the meat differently, but when I think of Kosher I think of myself playing around with a water hose in 20 degree weather at midnight at a house outside of Chicago.

"Carnivorous animals, birds of prey and land animals without external ears."
Wait, they can't eat land animals without external ears? Aren't chickens land animals? And they don't have external ears as far as I can tell. Sounds like a silly rule, unless the term "land animals" excludes all birds.
