Continue Aggressive Grassroots Growth, Prepare for Future Mobilizations
Washington, DC - The Million Mom March organization and Meetup Inc. today (May 14th) announced a new partnership to harness the growing power of technology to allow the Million Mom March to continue building an already strong grassroots "army" of volunteers concerned about the terrible toll that gun violence takes in America.
The partnership will allow the "Moms" to use Meetup.com to generate monthly face-to-face get-togethers with others who want to work to reduce gun violence in America. Through http://millionmoms.meetup.com, citizens across America will be able to self-organize and meet in local places every month.
"The Moms are on the march. This organization is getting bigger every day -- and we expect this technology will expand our organization significantly in the months ahead," said Mary Leigh Blek, president of the Million Mom March. "I think of Meetup.com as being the modern equivalent of a town hall bulletin board. We're a chapter-based organization that can benefit tremendously from these new tools."
"What's more American than groups of Americans gathering and mobilizing around an issue that they care deeply about? The first Saturday of every month is now Million Mom Meetup Day in America," said Scott Heiferman, CEO of Meetup, Inc. "Meetup's mission is to create local group gatherings and help stimulate local community, and we look forward to hearing stories from -- and seeing photos of -- Mom's across America getting involved with a cause that they believe in."
The first "Million Mom Meetup Day" is Saturday, June 7 at 1 p.m. local time across America. Meetups will commence in upwards of 490 U.S. cities and small towns and will continue on the first Saturday of each month thereafter.
Meetup, Inc. creates global Meetup Days for most any topic. Meetups are real world, face-to-face get-togethers that take place in 561 cities in 34 countries at local cafis, restaurants, bookstores, and other local establishments. Meetup's mission is to create local group gatherings and help stimulate local community. Since launching in June 2003, Meetup has become a grassroots phenomenon, with over 300,000 people signed up for monthly Meetups on more than 1,100 topics and interests. Meetup is based in New York City and is privately held. Online at http://meetup.com.

Well, I never hear anything about them recently. The Novi chapter hasn't updated their site since 2002. Haven't heard anything about Lansing, Kalamazoo or Detroit(other only somewhat active area) since the CCW fight in 01. I didn't even know that there was a Metro-Detroit, Muskegon, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, or Brighton chapter. That's strange. I'm in Livingston County where Brighton is, and didn't know there was an actual "MMM chapter" in my backyard. LOL. If people that follow the issue don't know about it, it can't be turning a profit.
The First Monday events were a bust for them. Especially the 2nd year.
However, with the AW sunset possibly on the horizon, we need to stay vigilant. They have MONEY. They have the press. We are not out of the woods. If we are complacent, we will get our butts handed to us.
The "Ducks" didn't have a chance against the Wings. John Engler didn't have a chance against Jim Blanchard. Bill Klinton didn't have a chance in 92. We must ALWAYS be ready.

- Well, since the subject is the second amendment to the U.S. Constitution, anyone who would oppose the million morons would be more American in my book.

Let's all meetup at the gunrange. LOL
You're right about the complacency. Kayne Robinson was criticized for reaching out to the hunters but that's where we're failing. We have to attract the people who don't know right now that it's their Rights that are in trouble.
The blue collar workers.
The soccer moms.
The hunters.
The Jewish-American community.
The residents of the crime filled cities.

As of yesterday, there were about 232 "moms" signed up. Take a look at the membership. A whole lot of them are shooters and pro-second amendment types who found the link at KeepandBearArms.org and at TheHighRoad.com. I'm signed up at the Oakland-Alameda location. I don't think they're going to want me to come to their meetings. However, it appears that there may only be one or two actual "mommies" signed up for that location.

What, the BANG list at FR wasn't good enough for them? Sheesh...
To: Dan from Michigan
They keep joining all these groups, trying to get their number closer to their mythical Million Mom March.
Hey, people, please start planning right now to join the Second Amendment Sisters in DC in May '04 for a rematch with the morons. Wouldn't it be great if we outnumbered them this time! That's my goal!
Watch this site for more information as next May draws nearer.

Million Mom March Joins Forces with Meetup.com Under the "truthful title" rules here at FR, that title should have been changed to:
"Both of the Million Mom members join forces with Meetup.com"
To: Dan from Michigan
Sorry, can't make it.
The first Saturday of every month is reserved for Garand matches. And the second for rimfire matches, and the third for pistol matches, and skeet in there somewhere.

It's great that you will attend the rally. I'm not holding my breath on the Cato case, though.

Actually, I was looking over the list of proposed magazine subscription cancellations at my university's library (we're in California, and the whole place is broke) and I noticed that they're going to cancel their subscription to The New American.
Apparently, that piece of JBS glory has been here for many years, which I find humorous, seeing as this is a commie-run campus.
