GORE VIDAL & THE MOTHER OF ALL CONSPIRACIES

Oliver Stone knew his Lee Harvey Oswalds and his Jack Rubys. He could tell the difference between Herbert Hoover and J. Edgar Hoover without a cue card. And he didn't like either one of them.

Stone could visualize a grassy knoll before he could see one. And he could imagine a conspiracy with the best of them.

The result was JFK, the movie. It was, alas for Ollie, not the Mother of all Conspiracies.

Hillary Clinton is more encompassing when it comes to advancing conspiracy theories than Ollie ever was. She is also considerably more far-fetched. It would take more to bring her down than it took to destroy JFK -- more than it took to get Monica Lewinsky into the White House. Oh yes, and just to better understand the nature of these things, Hillary would often commune with Eleanor Roosevelt. Then one day, apparently after an eye-opening séance with her secret mentor, Hillary announced that a vast right-wing conspiracy was trying to undermine her Global Village. Poor Hillary!

And Batman thought he was having troubles when the Joker and the Penguin combined to drive him out of Gotham City! Of course, it didn't work -- Penguins and Jokers don't mix.

And then there was the time Al Capone tried to bring down Eliot Ness. But compared to a Global Village, Chicago is small potatoes. After all, Vincent Mad Dog Coll was no J.Malice-Scaife, and Frank Nitti was no Trent Lott even with a real head of hair. So give Hillary her due -- she's pretty good at conspiracies and she tries hard.

But nobody tries harder than Gore Vidal. Gore is the undisputed master of the conspiracy theory. And he keeps proving it again and again. His latest effort is Dreaming War: Blood for Oil and the Cheney-Bush Junta.

Conspiracy theorists like to use words like Junta. It makes the parasitic left break out in a cold sweat. Add oil and George W to the mix, and the firebrand has all the combustibles he will ever need to suck every last bit of oxygen from the brains of his devotees....

Truly, there is no "there" there when talking about Gore Vidal. For one thing, he lives in Italy and just does drive-bys on things American a few times a year. Otherwise he is in his villa posing as his favorite politician, Benito Mussolini.
The dissolute life he has led has left him a husk without any shadings of sanity left.
