DEFENDERS: Pay To Get Kidnapped? Some People Do

New Thrill Is An Extreme Adventure, Some Say

Posted: 5:47 p.m. EDT May 16, 2003
In a dark basement, somewhere in metro-Detroit there is something very strange and frightening going on.

Local 4 Defenders have learned that local men and women are being kidnapped right off the public streets and brought to the basement for a game of mind manipulation and torture.

Local 4 followed the kidnappers as they stalked a local man and waited for the perfect time to act.

A group of masked men waited in their minivan as they watched the man exit a shopping center. It takes only seconds to kidnap the man in broad daylight.

The masked men jump out of the van and take their target. He is thrown into the van and the kidnappers drive off.

The abduction is complete, but the ride is far from over.

The victim lays motionless, handcuffed behind his back and blindfolded on the floor as they take him to the hideout.

Some people like to go skydiving, bungee jumping, or scuba diving to get their extreme sport thrills. But now a Detroit-based group has taken such extreme thrill seeking adventures to a whole new level.

Metro Detroit area rapper Mr. Scrillion, a.k.a. Adam Thick, has begun kidnapping people for his profit and their fun.

The rapper and his colleagues are now offering a unique service to those who want to go through the experience of a realistic kidnapping without being in real danger. The man behind Extreme Kidnapping (www.extremekidnapping.com) is Thick, also known to the rap community as Mr. Scrillion.

"This service caters to the extreme sports adventurer who is bored with what's currently available; this takes it to a whole other level," Thick said.

The kidnappings are realistic, and not for the faint of heart. Thick said every nuance and detail of an actual kidnapping is replicated to provide the most intense experience possible.

"If you don't feel like you're really being kidnapped and your life is in danger, then we're not doing our job," said Thick.

Currently, three different kidnap scenarios are available, at different prices. The available scenarios range from $500 for the least expensive kidnapping thrill, to $1,200 for an overnight adventure that Thick said puts the client's hardcore extremism to the test.

"All kidnapping scenarios come complete with a videotape copy that you can watch and re-live whenever you want. A one-of-a-kind conversation piece to be sure," Thick said.

As more local rappers discover the service, they are signing on as "celebrity guest kidnappers."

Before the adventure scenario unfolds, an interview is scheduled, waivers are signed, fees are paid, and a videotaped affidavit is recorded, Thick said.

Adventurous souls should visit www.extremekidnapping.com to get the details.

Call me when Heather Nauert and Laurie Dhue open up a similar service.

I give this about 6 months and the state will outlaw this activity. It will only take a single incident of someone being injured to bring a quick halt.

What if one of these kidnap victims happened to be nabbed by real kidnappers? "Okay, guys, it's been fun and all, and hoo-boy, that really seemed real! You sure earned your money! You can let me go now. Guys? Guys? Hey, that gun looks real. Guys???"

What if these morons mistakenly kidnap the wrong person? Trying to grab me or mine and will be the end of their sorry little "game."

A thrill from the illusion of danger, but in a safely controlled situation. A roller coaster ride for grownups.

Different strokes for different folks. It's their money.
